Like your mysteries cozy and set during the Golden Age of Crime? This is the first audiobook in the Posie Parker mysteries, although this novel can be enjoyed as a stand-alone story in its own right. Set in London in 1921, Murder Offstage is full of intrigue and red herrings. When Posie Parker’s childhood friend is robbed of a priceless jewel and becomes a suspect in a cold-blooded murder case, budding detective Posie vows she will clear his name.

exciting twist at the end
Revisado: 04-23-20
a bit slow to start - the performance was very good. I'm so used to Barbara Rosenblatt that it's hard trying not to compare every reader to her. This was a very good performance and the end of the book had an exciting unexpected twist. When in the mood for another cozy mystery, I'll choose another Hathaway book.

Historia
It is 1872, and a series of gruesome murders is the talk of London. Mycroft Holmes - now 26 and a force to be reckoned with at the War Office - has no interest in the killings; however his brother Sherlock has developed a distasteful fascination for the macabre to the detriment of his studies, much to Mycroft's frustration. When a ship carrying cargo belonging to Mycroft's best friend Cyrus Douglas runs aground, Mycroft persuades Sherlock to serve as a tutor at the orphanage that Douglas runs as a charity, so that Douglas might travel to see what can be salvaged.

interesting take on the nature of AI. it doesn't have as diverse a cast as the first book in the series though. it's a great read but I miss the Wayfarer and its crew

Historia
Rosemary Harper doesn't expect much when she joins the crew of the aging Wayfarer. While the patched-up ship has seen better days, it offers her a bed, a chance to explore the far-off corners of the galaxy, and, most importantly, some distance from her past. An introspective young woman, she's never met anyone remotely like the ship's diverse crew, including Sissix, the exotic reptilian pilot; chatty engineers Kizzy and Jenks, who keep the ship running; and Ashby, their noble captain.

required reading for my son's HS language arts
Revisado: 12-04-13
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Good grief the story went on and on......small island and strung out stranded boys destined to try and kill each other while slaughtering the only available food source on the island other then themselves. It was very dark - I would make some highlights and a brighter points - like have the boys flashback to fun or interesting times in their lives as they intertwined in the boarding school prior to the wreck.
What could William Golding have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
He could have filtered in the ship that eventually rescued the boys or family back home worrying about survival or life around the drama knowing their children were lost in a plane crash. Sorry Mr. Golding but this book was awful and dark. There are about 25 kids in the class and without exception they all disliked the book and would not be reading it if they didn't have to. All are advanced learners and read avidly
Which character – as performed by William Golding – was your favorite?
Piggy - who was eventually murdered sadly
Was Lord of the Flies worth the listening time?
NO NO NO NO
Any additional comments?
dark unpleasant story
