Revisado: 11-15-22
The relentless challenge of a book like this is putting something into words that defies words. I don't know of anyone who is a native English speaker that does it better than Alan Watts.

Historia
Many of us know we're putting too much pressure on our kids - and on ourselves - but how do we get off this crazy train? We want our children to succeed, to be their best, and to do their best, but what if they are not on board? A few years ago, Ned Johnson and Bill Stixrud started noticing the same problem from different angles: even high-performing kids were coming to them acutely stressed and lacking any real motivation. Many complained that they had no real control over their lives.

Historia
The leviathan is the vast unity of the State. But how are unity, peace, and security to be attained? Hobbes’ answer is sovereignty, but the resurgence of interest today in Leviathan is due less to its answers than its methods: Hobbes sees politics as a science capable of the same axiomatic approach as geometry.

Historia
Of all the things humans rely on plants for - sustenance, beauty, medicine, fragrance, flavor, fiber - surely the most curious is our use of them to change consciousness: to stimulate or calm, fiddle with or completely alter, the qualities of our mental experience. Take coffee and tea: People around the world rely on caffeine to sharpen their minds. But we do not usually think of caffeine as a drug, or our daily use as an addiction, because it is legal and socially acceptable.

Wim Hof is a meditation god.
Revisado: 10-28-21
So many people in the world can't even begin to understand what a deep meditative state is because they identify with thought so much. I believe he has some very useful methods to help people begin to understand the power of an altered state of consciousness. I am going to incorporate some of his methods. He seems to be a meditation god.

Historia
In this explosive new book, Sam Harris tears down the wall between scientific facts and human values, arguing that most people are simply mistaken about the relationship between morality and the rest of human knowledge. Harris urges us to think about morality in terms of human and animal well-being, viewing the experiences of conscious creatures as peaks and valleys on a "moral landscape".

Historia
A string of best sellers have alerted us to the importance of grit - an ability to persevere and control one's impulses that is closely associated with greatness. But no book yet has charted the most accessible and powerful path to grit: our prosocial emotions. These feelings - gratitude, compassion, and pride - are easier to generate than the willpower and self-denial that underpin traditional approaches to grit. And, while willpower is quickly depleted, prosocial emotions actually become stronger the more we use them.

Historia
There’s a new invisible force at work in our economic and cultural lives. It affects every advertisement we see and every product we buy, from our morning coffee to a new pair of shoes. “Stakeholder capitalism” makes rosy promises of a better, more diverse, environmentally friendly world, but in reality, this ideology, championed by America’s business and political leaders, robs us of our money, our voice, and our identity.

I disagree with his overall thesis.
Revisado: 09-02-21
If the author honestly expects us to agree that corporations are doing better for the world when they pollute rivers in areas where they can get away with it in order to maximize profits but are harming society when they demand that at least one member of a minority group sit on the board of directors, he has really lost his way. The overall thesis is obvious bullshit. To suggest that companies have violated their fiduciary duty when they try to implement corporate ethics is laughable considering all the shit that corporations have done to harm society in the name of pure profit seeking, and he seems to shift his opinion anyway. At one point he says that he doesn't believe that systemic racisms even exists but later in the book backs away from that. He did make some really good points and I agree that extreme left and extreme right positions can be very harmful to society. I also agree that political belief should be a protected belief like religion so anyone can hold any belief they want and not risk their job for strange beliefs. I also loved the idea about mandatory civil service for the youth.
