Absolutely Brilliant

So, this book by Sally Rooney is next level. I feel it’s her best novel thus far. It’s bold, brave, and written without constraint. Has depth, that isn’t captured often enough in novels these days, without being bloated. Yes, fans of Sally Rooney will salivate as they devour every chapter, the rising action, the pinch towards the end so expertly crafted. That’s all. Happy reading. Thank you for another fantastic read Sally Rooney. You’ve done it again.

No matter what she writes it’s good.

There are writers and then there are storytellers and no matter what story Lisa Jewell tells it is expertly crafted. This is not her usual kind of plot, but still it’s so good and again very well written.

I can say for sure that if anyone else had written this story, I probably wouldn’t have gotten through it. I’m sure Marvel hired her because of her skill level and they did well. Five stars and even if you don’t read superhero fiction I totally recommend this read.

Much Needed Account

What a very precise account Harry’s life and experiences juxtaposed against a brutal, unchecked, and relentless media tabloid machine. This book just might be their epic take down and final gift to his mother. Five stars!

Never fails To deliver

Lisa Jewell crafts fiction with deep emotional intelligence and that’s very difficult to do. In effect she writes domestic thrillers and mystery which includes all the suspense and dopamine overdose the genre induces while still keeping her feet on the ground. That’s very important. And it’s very hard to do. And that’s why I devour everything she writes.

Really loved it

The story was very entertaining. That’s what matters to me most. However, it was quite irritating listening to Ethiopian characters with English accents. Can we stop doing that in 2021? I don’t know, maybe in 2022, 2023, at some point we have to stop catering to white supremacy. Regardless, I love the story. It’s very inventive. But the best part where the relationships between the characters. They were all heart.

Better and Better...

This was my first Lapena novel. An author has to have a certain amount of emotional intelligence do pin down the nuances of each character's behavior. I'm writing this review after listening to and now reading everything Lapena has published and I'm telling you, she is a master at putting characters in the pressure cooker and writing how they react and relate. That is her strength. The Couple Next Door is her second best book. I think this is her best. Great job! 5 stars!

Entertaining Story Delivered...

Shari Lapena styled. If you like Lapena's in-the-moment sort of emotional meltdown and turmoiled characters trapped in the pressure cooker, then you'll love this story just as much as everything else she's written. It's not about the detective work or what someone should've or would've done. Frankly, we can't know what someone would've done off the page. Lapena's stories are about how her particular characters behave under pressure. Oh... And they are entertaining to read. Conventional folks falling out of love when their house of cards blow away with the wind. Neighbors screwing. Husbands kissing other women. Guests who maybe have or have not committed murder. But um... Riley's PTSD is rather unrealistic. But whatever, it was entertaining to read. And Lapena loves writing a good sociopath. Love it. Can't wait until next year. It seems she releases once a year. 5 stars!

Passes my test!

If I read a second book by an author and by the end say, I would’ve definitely read the first book if I had read this book first, then I would know that the author had certainly nailed it. And she has. Good job! I consider this a romance novel for contemporary-minded individuals. Read a regular romance and you’ll know what I’m talking about. This is definitely a love story And I’ll venture to say a romance between friends and lovers. It took me a while to understand the reason behind the letters between Eileen and Alice. But as I got further into the story, I begin to realize that as they grow and change the tone of your correspondence changed. And I do think that true love occurs when you find a partner who understands the pattern and disrupts it. And that’s why I say this is a romance. Good job Sally Roone, good job.

The Master of Psychological Suspense

First of all, Karissa Vacker, the narrator, OMG, BRAVO. I seriously thought there was more than one narrator and one was a man. Man, she killed it with Patrick's voice. It took me a few to stop being irritated by Stephanie. I even skipped to the end after listening to chapter 19. But then I had to know how we had gotten from chapter 19 to how it ended. Then, somehow I ended up at the beginning again. That's the thing with Shari Lapena books, if you listen haphazardly, then you'll miss it. And I missed it. The devil is literally in the right details. Wow. A master of suspense. 5 stars!

Masterful

Detective what’s his name is a terrible detective. But, that’s not the point of the story. This masterpiece is about human behavior. It’s about how we respond while under pressure. Solving the case isn’t the point. It’s about how the characters behave. And frankly, I don’t think we could have it all. We have to focus on one or the other I will lose the momentum. Thankfully the author focused on the human beings. I love it!
