Well done but not earth shattering.

The performance was very professional. The story was good but nothing earth shattering. Nice account of Elizabeth's reign from the beginning.

Historia
He was the first person to inspire her, to move her, to truly understand her. Was he meant to be the last? Lucy is faced with a life-altering choice. But before she can make her decision, she must start her story - their story - at the very beginning. Lucy and Gabe meet as seniors at Columbia University on a day that changes both of their lives forever. Together, they decide they want their lives to mean something, to matter. When they meet again a year later, it seems fated - perhaps they'll find life's meaning in each other.

Sorry but I did not like this at all.
Revisado: 04-11-19
I found this story really annoying and could not feel connected to or empathetic of any of the characters. Especially the narrator "Lucy". There was so little depth to any of them. It was overly sentimental with no real substance. She was not at all her own light or spirit-- she was just a possession of two unworthy, uninsightful men. The ending was ridiculous. The author should have researched brain death better before using the term incorrectly. Brain death is synonymous with death. There is no family choice-- patients are removed from the ventilator because they are dead when the brain no longer has any function. Unless they are donating organs and need to keep the organs oxygenated. The notion that she "killed him" is ridiculous and harmful to the non medical public as he was already dead. If he was severely brain damaged then the choice to disconnect him from life support would go to the family or medical proxy but brain death is actual death with no need for family input. I can not remember being more annoyed or disappointed by a book. I was looking forward to a modern love story with influences from the tragedy of 911. But I didn't believe a word of it. The only character I liked was her research brother who said " I love like hydrogen loves oxygen". I am normally not a book critic, but this book pissed me off! I am mad at Audible for recommending it to me.

Historia
In this irresistibly imagined belowstairs answer to Pride and Prejudice, the servants take center stage. Sarah, the orphaned housemaid, spends her days scrubbing the laundry, polishing the floors, and emptying the chamber pots for the Bennet household. But there is just as much romance, heartbreak, and intrigue downstairs at Longbourn as there is upstairs. When a mysterious new footman arrives, the orderly realm of the servants’ hall threatens to be completely, perhaps irrevocably, upended.

Fantastic!

I highly recommend this book. Incredibly well written. Makes Jane Austin's characters pale in comparison to the servants.

Predictable
Revisado: 06-05-16
Other than the hot lesbian sex scenes, this book was not very exciting. Very predictable. Characters not particularly interesting or very well developed.
