In this stand-alone novel, Rhys Bowen immerses us in WWII, beginning to end. I never knew where the plot was going. Absorbing and well done. Barrie Kreinik's narration is satisfying, with multiple characters wonderfully voiced by her. The story made me realize the suffering and bravery of the people during those awful years.

I think this novel and this audiobook version are top notch. The story got me involved in each character's life, and the narrators brought them to life!

Rhys Bowen can always be counted on to provide a well-written and original story. And I always learn something from her books. This story is about a young woman who becomes a cook for Queen Victoria's household, and eventually the queen herself. What could be very boring is instead a great adventure as the narrator finds herself in France, cooking for the transplanted household. Don't want to give away too much, but this is a terrific story, and a splendid narration by Gemma Dawson who switches characters and accents easily and convincingly.

I am two years younger than James Taylor, so his music has always been around for me when we both were in our twenties and onward. Although his soundtrack is in my life, I didn't know much about him. This well-done and short autobiography fills the gaps with no self-pity or drama, just matter-of-fact telling. Loved the pacing of the music throughout the narration. His rather flat speaking voice bothered me until I got used to it. Definitely a worthwhile purchase.

This is an amazing, well done, well plotted story, twisty and dodgy all the way. All the characters from "Oliver Twist" are reunited in this mystery-plus-ghost story, and I do mean all. I never knew where the story was going, right up to the end. All the voices are terrific. There is a hint of another story at the end, and I hope they follow up!

This book is a series of stories told by Jennifer Worth about her days as a midwife in the 1950s in a poor section of London. Home births were the norm then, as was attendance by the midwife. The stories range from tragic to very funny, and are occasionally gruesome. Nicola Barber narrates it all with aplomb, easily changing accents as needed. She narrates with warmth and heart, and I could see these characters in my mind as we progressed. Very good book, very good narration.

This investigation into a murder in West Cork is beautifully, thoughtfully, thoroughly, and suspensefully done. The story, the multiple voices, and the haunting soundscape all work together. The twists and turns this takes takes! Like everyone else, I am used to television stories with solutions and the villain carted off to jail. No such resolution here, which is frustrating, but I could understand and appreciate the authors' approach. Sad, but very worthwhile.

I listened to the original "West Cork" and thought the complex story was presented thoroughly, thoughtfully, and with great suspense (helped along by the haunting soundscapes). I was disappointed that there was no resolution, but thought the treatment was fair and unbiased. This is a good follow up, with details and thoughts from the authors who discuss some background of the production and admit their own frustrations with the ambiguous ending. Worthwhile.
