Historia
From his earliest days growing up in Canada, Deryck Whibley was a punk who loved music and couldn’t wait to achieve something bigger and better than the humble path that lay before him. Whibley was raised by a single mom and their small family constantly moved from place to place, so he was used to being the new kid, starting fights (or finishing them), and connecting with people who shared his sensibility for chaotic fun and loud music. Sum 41 was born of a group of friends who loved to jam, shared a DIY ethos, and were determined to be rock stars one day.

Raw, amazing memoir
Revisado: 04-09-25
Deryck did a phenomenal job describing both his personal journey and that of the band. Appreciated author narration and the plugs of music throughout. I wanted to finish it, but now I’m sad it’s finished! Great read/listen.

Hannah’s Best Book to Date
Revisado: 02-26-24
As a Navy nurse, this book pulled my heart strings. It was an emotional roller coaster that tells the story of so many women who have paved the way for military nurses. Bravo!

The Hulu series is way better!
Revisado: 07-25-21
I am amazed this book got picked up as a TV series because it didn’t read well. It was very slow and convoluted. This was one of the few instances where I enjoyed watching a story rather than reading/listening to it. Having said that, the Hulu series was excellent. I binged all 8 episodes in 2 days.

Historia
Thirteen-year-old Caroline and her father have lived for four years on the outskirts of Portland, Oregon, in Forest Park. He has homeschooled her using encyclopedias and books from the library while also teaching her a rigid code of behavior that enables them to survive in this wilderness. Yet one small mistake allows the authorities to discover them. Their forced relocation to a horse farm outside of the city becomes only a brief respite to their deeper flight from a world that can't understand them.

Movie Was Better
Revisado: 10-19-20
This was one of the few times I can honestly say I thought the movie was better! The story line in the book had some confusing/hard to follow details that were simplified and a bit more believable in the movie.
