Historia
In God's Battalions, award-winning author Rodney Stark takes on the long-held view that the Crusades were the first round of European colonialism, conducted for land, loot, and converts by barbarian Christians who victimized the cultivated Muslims. To the contrary, Stark argues that the Crusades were the first military response to unwarranted Muslim terrorist aggression.

Exposes the bias of modern historians
Revisado: 03-01-24
The crusades were a bizarre occurrence in history, for sure... but not in the way you might think! The most valuable aspect of this book is how it shows the ridiculousness of modern bias among historians, who skip actual research in favor of presenting the crusades as some Catholic atrocity. If you read this review and think, "But, my good fool, they WERE a Catholic atrocity," then do yourself a favor and listen to what the historical records of that time show, often written by Islamic historians, as Stark compares them to the modern accounts you and I have been taught, to show the silliness of our modern folklore about the crusades.

Historia
In the spiritual life, we need a central idea: something so basic and comprehensive that it encompasses everything else. According to Carmelite Father Wilfrid Stinissen, surrender to God, abandonment to the One who loves us completely, is that central reality. The life of Jesus shows us the centrality of abandonment, for it is truly the beginning and the end of his mission on earth.

Actual substance on the spiritual life, not mindless fluff
Revisado: 02-22-24
Narrator did a good job making a very content-rich book understandable. The author presents us with the interior shift we have to make, that is key to deeper holiness.

Historia
Most Christians are familiar with the Apostle Paul's teaching that Christ is the "Bridegroom" and the Church is the "Bride." But what does this really mean? And what would ever possess Paul to compare the death of Christ to the love of a husband for his wife? If you would have been at the Crucifixion, with Jesus hanging there dying, is that how you would have described it? How could a first-century Jew like Paul, who knew how brutal Roman crucifixions were, have ever compared the execution of Jesus to a wedding?

Fascinating!! Why seeing Jesus as a bridegroom changes everything: crucifixion, Ephesians5, and so much more!!
