Thought provoking
Revisado: 01-04-18
I enjoyed this book very much primarily because I believe in research and data and I believe it proves the common human experience. I would have preferred author narration. I did not enjoy this narration performance. The subject matter needed more authenticity.

Davina porter brings the outlander books to life in a way I've not heard. She makes it well worth the read. I'm sure the great material doesn't hurt either.

Diana Gabaldon’s magnificent historical saga, begun with Outlander and Dragonfly in Amber, continues with this New York Times bestseller. Set in the intriguing Scotland of 200 years ago, the third installment in the romantic adventures of Jamie and Claire is as compelling as the first.

If there’s anything they can count on, it’s each other. Clementine and Erika are each other’s oldest friends. A single look between them can convey an entire conversation. But theirs is a complicated relationship, so when Erika mentions a last minute invitation to a barbecue with her neighbors, Tiffany and Vid, Clementine and Sam don’t hesitate.

Really great book
Revisado: 10-19-16
I really enjoyed this book. At first I thought it was a bit slow then realized it was the authors technique for building tension. I really hearing the point of view of each character and the twists and turns that occurred. I'm left mulling over the moral and ethical question of altering a child's memory. I like a book that makes me think.

Exodus is an international publishing phenomenon - the towering novel of the 20th century's most dramatic geopolitical event. Leon Uris magnificently portrays the birth of a new nation in the midst of enemies - the beginning of an earthshaking struggle for power. Here is the tale that swept the world with its fury: the story of an American nurse, an Israeli freedom fighter caught up in a glorious, heartbreaking, triumphant era. Here is Exodus - one of the great best-selling novels of all time.

Great historical fiction but biased
Revisado: 08-24-16
I I liked the way Uris added historical background to the story line though sometimes it felt like a textbook. However his characterization a of Arabs was extremely biased and negative- the Jews were the noble ones and the only ones who knew how to develop the country, who had the drive, intelligence, cleverness, etc. the Arabs were war mongerers, and lazy, and easily swayed and emotional. Iris is not alive to explain his point of view so just be aware of what you reading- historical "FICTION".

The 16th Amendment to the Constitution legalized federal income tax, but what if there were problems with the 1913 ratification of that amendment? Secrets that call into question decades of tax collecting. There is a surprising truth to this possibility—a truth wholly entertained by Steve Berry, a top-ten New York Times bestselling writer, in his new thriller, The Patriot Threat.

Convoluted
Revisado: 06-10-16
This book was ridiculous. The plot was convoluted and difficult to care about. The jump from character to character and scene to scene was difficult to follow. And to make it all worse, the narrator was awful. His voice was overdramatic and made the book sound more ridiculous. I finished it only because o had bought it.

I was expecting more
Revisado: 03-29-16
I was disappointed with this book. The writing was very simplistic and the characters were even more simplistic. They were simple, unaware, immature with little to know growth. It was just odd. I was expecting something rich and deep.

Slow build
Revisado: 08-20-15
I ended up liking this book but it took well over halfway to make me care. I appreciate clever writing but it took too long to make it he connections between the characters. I will say that I cried at the end so it was successful.
The narrator's voice was too soothing. Listening in the car, I often tuned out because her voice was one note. I'm sure that didn't help with taking so long to engage. Maybe reading would have been better for this book.

Historia
Of all of John Irving's books, this is the one that lends itself best to audio. In print, Owen Meany's dialogue is set in capital letters; for this production, Irving himself selected Joe Barrett to deliver Meany's difficult voice as intended. In the summer of 1953, two 11-year-old boys – best friends – are playing in a Little League baseball game in Gravesend, New Hampshire. One of the boys hits a foul ball that kills the other boy's mother. The boy who hits the ball doesn't believe in accidents; Owen Meany believes he is God's instrument. What happens to Owen after that 1953 foul ball is extraordinary and terrifying.

As I began to listen, I really didn't care for the performer or story. However I pushed myself to listen on a long trip and found myself enjoying the story and narration. Very thoughtful and creative storytelling that pulls you in and makes you want to keep listening.

I kept trying to predict the ending up until the last couple of chapters. It's great storytelling that can keep you guessing. I have high expectations for suspense novels and this one met them all.
