Difficult initially - but well worth it!

As many commentators have noted, the chat room messages were (initially) difficult to follow. Once I got used to them, I loved this book; if anything, it is my favourite Cormoran Strike book. Once again, Robert Glenister's narration was 'perfect'.

Great book; fantastic narration

A tremendous psychological drama by Anna-Lou Weatherley. Although I figured out the killer fairly early on, the plot details and how it was all wrapped up kept me enthralled to the very end. I need to commend James Lailey’s narration. I have almost 400 Audible books, and he is up there with the best of them.

Great book - don't understand the negative reviews

Exciting storyline with excellent narration. Once I got going, I struggled to put it down.

Although it is not for the squeamish, I’m struggling to understand why this book has been so severely panned in some reviews. One criticism included, “..if you are a ruthless villain, and your enemies fall into your hands, you kill them at once.” IMO, that is most definitely an ivory tower perspective.

Brilliant plot twist(s)

This audiobook is a well written psychological thriller with many twists and turns, particularly at the end. I loved Brittany Pressley's narration too.

In the last few months, I've listened to over 40 books of this genre by various authors. This one is my favourite. My only concern is that this book has ratcheted up my expectations.

Abridged version.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Amos Decker series by David Baldacci. After listening to Split Second, the first book in the King and Maxwell series, I decided that I'd enjoy this series too. Unfortunately, all that was available for Book 2 (Hour Game) was an abridged version. Not wanting to 'lose the thread' of the series, I bought this version. Many business and self-help books would probably benefit from removal of substantial parts of the script; however, that is not the case with this genre.

I'm about to read Book 3 - the full version. If, having listened to this abridged version 'helps' with that listen, then I'll have a real quandary - Book 4 is an abridged version too.

Exceeded all my expectations

My first time with this 'genre'; but, now I'm hooked. I suspect, in reality, that the protagonist would have been caught prior to completing his list but hey this is fiction and the author's extended real-world experience of elite special forces, in this case, the SEALS gives this book real authenticity. Read the book and decide for yourself.

PS Thanks to the SEALS, SAS, and all the others who do the stuff we don't need to know about to keep us safe.
