terrible
Revisado: 12-06-24
I can clearly understand why this book struggled to sell. this is by far the worst book in the Malazan universe. to top it off they picked a bad narrator. this book was a struggle, a book this size I can finish in three or four days this book took me a month.

Revisado: 10-23-24
I absolutely hate that they changed narrators after 10 books! and how can they make a trilogy based off of a man and choose a woman?? utterly disappointing and all of the mispronunciations are absolutely ruining this

Historia
In the western sky the bright emerald banner of the Visitor descends like a portent of annihilation. On the continent of Jacuruku, the Thaumaturgs have mounted yet another expedition to tame the neighboring wild jungle. Yet this is no normal wilderness. It is called Himatan, and it is said to be half of the spirit realm and half of the earth. And it is said to be ruled by a powerful entity whom some name the Queen of Witches, and some a goddess: the ancient Ardata.

I.C.E. is an average author at best.
Revisado: 01-13-21
Steven Erikson has written what is the absolute best fantasy series I have ever read. Him allowing ICE to write some of these books was a tragic mistake as ICE is no where near the writer. this book was a struggle to get through it was boring he jumped back into his previous book to show a scene from the other perspective. there is hardly any depth at all to books written by ICE. ICE would have made an average author at best.

Drama growth betrayal friendship and rat *ucking lol. Scott Lynch has an awesome sense of humor I very much look forward to finishing this series.

bad narrator and average story
Revisado: 02-29-20
after all the wonderful things I have heard about this series I was expecting a great book. first off the narrator definitely hurt this book his voice is so boring he kept putting me to sleep. usually I can finish a book this length in 6 days it has taken me over three weeks to finish it. the story was average at best, the vast majority of it is character building. after 26 hours of build up we get to the climax and it's not even give minutes worth of action. this series could get better but man this first book was a pretty big let down

Historia
In Darujhistan, the city of blue blue fire, it is said that Love and Death shall arrive dancing. It is summer, and the heat is oppressive, but for the small, rotund man in the faded red waistcoat discomfiture is not just because of the sun. All is not well. Dire portents plague his nights and haunt the city streets like fiends of shadow. Assassins skulk in alleyways, but the quarry has turned, and the hunters become the hunted. Hidden hands pluck the strings of tyranny like a fell chorus.
