Historia
The Forerunner has decimated the Vanguard Islands in a surprise attack from the Trident warship. King Kade Long—seeing no alternative—accepts a peace deal, committing to a perilous mission with X, the “Immortal,” to activate weather-modification reactors at the poles. But as Kade and X set off, the fragile peace is threatened by Gran Jefe’s one-man guerrilla war against the psychopathic knight, General Jack. Meanwhile, halfway across the world, Michael and his family begin to settle into their new life in the Canary Islands, only to discover that it’s not the sanctuary they believed it was.

More of a good thing.
Revisado: 10-29-19
I've really been enjoying this series. It isn't groundbreaking, and I have a couple of gripes with it, but overall, it is solid. I really like these characters and find it easy to root for them in earnest.
I really want to applaud whomever decided to package these two at a time. This is a real service to the reader/listener/customer. This brings the length of each purchase up to one that i find really respectable. Otherwise it might feel a little underwhelming to spend those precious monthly credits on.

Historia
From the moment Dara of Westwood spied the Silver Headed Raptor nesting in Rundeval Peak, the precocious redheaded 12-year-old girl was enchanted. The youngest daughter of the Master of the Wood lived in ramshackle Westwood Hall, in the independently minded Westwood estate of Sevendor. Her determination to capture a baby falcon and train it wasn’t hampered by the fact that Dara had never climbed a mountain, had never been trained in falconry, or even remotely had permission from her father to do it.

A VERY pleasant surprise.
Revisado: 08-23-19
I am absolutely enamoured of this series. I was a little disappointed when this recording started up and it was not John Lee's voice I heard. I associate his voice with Min so completely. But very quickly I got accustomed to Finty William's delightful voice and skillful narration. She has done an excellent job giving voice to Dara. I am nearly finished with Hawkmaiden and I am distraught that Hawklady doesn't come out for a couple weeks yet!

BIG OL LET DOWN

This follow up to Dune is a boring, bleak, bummer. I struggled to even pay attention and when I did, I wasn't enjoying it.

Historia
Ashok Vadal was once a member of the highest caste in all of Lok. As a Protector, he devoted his life to upholding the Law, rooting out those who still practiced the old ways and delivering justice with his ancestor blade Angruvadal. None was more merciless than he in stamping out the lingering belief in gods and demons among the casteless. His brutality was legendary and celebrated. But soon Ashok learned that his life to that point had been a lie. He himself, senior member of the Protector Order, was casteless. He had been nothing more than an unwitting pawn in a political game.

Aaaaaargh! Book 3 NOW!!!
Revisado: 03-21-19
So good. I listened to book 1 when it was brand new and didn't know it was the only one. The wait was so long for this one and I kept checking and checking to see when it would be available.
This follow up has been excellent and now I know the wait for book 3 is going to be agonizing.
The only negative I can cite is that Ashok's constant sniveling about how he isn't a 'whole man' is really irritating. The whole concept of the castless grates (I know it's supposed to) and I'd hoped he'd have had more growth in that matter by the end of this book.
I want to know so much about this world that is still unanswered!!! Excellent job Mr. Correia. Tim G reynolds' narration is compelling, as always.

don't call it a trilogy...
Revisado: 03-13-19
don't call it a trilogy if it doesn't complete the story arc by the end of the third book. this book asked more questions than answers and by the end of it nothing is resolved. as of yet I can't tell if there are more books in the series, and I'm not sure if I want to continue reading them. the narration is fantastic is always because Simon Vance is the man, but the story here remains confusing unresolved and unfulfilling. The main character is weak is always getting outsmarted out maneuvered overpowered and he's not fun to root for. it's almost comically like Dragonball Z or something where as soon as the character achieves an ultimate level of greatness and power he unleashes his devastating attack on the enemy only to find out that they weren't even scratched and that they haven't revealed a fraction of their true strength.. really annoying

The story and the quality continue
Revisado: 03-04-19
I am intrigued by this story and this world even more at the end of book 2. However, I still feel like the characters are somewhat under developed. I don't know if book 3 will close out the story arc, but if it does I can't help but feel like the story will feel a bit like Swiss cheese... j/s.

Not bad, but not great.
Revisado: 02-25-19
Simon Vance is fantastic as always (although his 'American' accents are kinda funny).
th
The story here is kinda ho-hum. The crossover between modern Earthly sensibilities and the fantasy world of Talona(sp?) is a little jarring and not really to my taste, but I have adjusted. The story is full of unimaginative fantasy tropes. Characters reactions/opinions to very important plot points swing wildly from one extreme to the other in a matter of moments from flimsy arguments taking all of the drama or gravity out of many situations. Characters also react to extreme situations and revelations with what seems like an 'Oh, well that's mildly interesting. Moving right along...' kind of attitude. weird. however, I like it well enough to listen to the next book.

just MEH
Revisado: 02-03-19
So this book totally abandons Artyom in favor of a different character. As if we weren't clamoring to know what happened to Artyom. It also skips around all crazily sich that I find myself thinking I must've missed several sentences. We never really learn too much about the characters in this book, and it just feels like a spin-off. Quite a let down.
