Historia
This is the way the world ends, for the last time. The season of endings grows darker, as civilization fades into the long cold night. Essun - once Damaya, once Syenite, now avenger - has found shelter, but not her daughter. Instead there is Alabaster Tenring, destroyer of the world, with a request. But if Essun does what he asks, it would seal the fate of the Stillness forever. Far away, her daughter Nassun is growing in power - and her choices will break the world.

Historia
Once upon a time, in the magical land of San Francisco, there lived a not-so-ordinary girl named Laurel Pettigrew. She was supposed to be the Chosen One. The plan was simple: She would vanquish the great evil Tybus in an epic battle. But destiny had other ideas, and Laurel's performance in the whole heroics department was a colossal flop. Now, instead of being a legendary hero, Laurel's the resident pariah of the magic realm. And what’s worse, the dark wizard Tybus swooped in, took over the realm, and forced all supernatural creatures to live under his tyrannical rule.

Predictable but fun
Revisado: 11-01-23
Nothing too groundbreaking or surprising, but a fun romp with a solid voice cast. VERY clear it's written by Felicia Day, the story definitely sounds like her. an easy and enjoyable listen.

Historia
When you let go, you live intuitively. Everything flows, because you are no longer attached to things being a certain way, to being a certain person or always being right. What a relief. The irony is that when you feel stuck in any area of your life - career, relationships, purpose, health or money - letting go can seem very hard. You cling on for dear life just at the moment you need to take the leap. In The Power of Letting Go, John Purkiss explains why we should let go and how we can do it, using proven techniques to make things happen.

just ok

Wouldn't quite fit into my normal picks, read on recommendation. Maybe it didn't speak to me much due to my current state of mind, but I felt often that it was oversimplified and somewhat dismissive of trauma.

Historia
According to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch (the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies, written in 1655, before she exploded), the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just before dinner. So the armies of Good and Evil are amassing, Atlantis is rising, frogs are falling, tempers are flaring. Everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan.

Very Clever and Entertaining
Revisado: 09-16-23
A very cleverly written story with lots of little laughs. The voice acting on this version is also a real delight, though as someone who hasn't read the book prior to this I wasn't anticipating the amount of narration vs character talk. I think I expected a little more since this was a fully acted production. Not a problem really, just surprised me.

A decent ending to the series
Revisado: 08-09-23
A generally fun ending to the series with fewer problematic racial depictions than in the second book. As always everything wraps up with a neat little bow at the end and the protagonist has found themselves to be more powerful than they thought.

Historia
These days, no one in America feels immune to violence. But now, in this extraordinary, groundbreaking book, the nation's leading expert on predicting violent behavior unlocks the puzzle of human violence and shows that, like every creature on earth, we have within us the ability to predict the harm others might do us and get out of its way. Contrary to popular myth, human violence almost always has a discernible motive and is preceded by clear warning signs.

About more than personal safety
Revisado: 08-04-23
I found this book to be a helpful read. it definitely made me think about the difference between worry and fear, why we feel fear, and many other aspects about personal safety. Additionally though, it talks a lot about trusting your instincts and learning to understand the signals your body is sending you. This is helpful information whether you're concerned about personal safety or just understanding your bodies response to stress and other stimuli. Overall, a very compelling read with lots of helpful information.

Historia
The relentless pursuit of high self-esteem has become a virtual religion - and a tyrannical one at that. Our ultracompetitive culture tells us we need to be constantly above average to feel good about ourselves, but there is always someone more attractive, successful, or intelligent than we are. And even when we do manage to grab hold of high self-esteem for a brief moment, we can't seem to keep it. Our sense of self-worth goes up and down like a ping-pong ball, rising and falling in lockstep with our latest success or failure.

Surprise "woo-woo" later in
Revisado: 07-23-23
I found a lot of helpful tidbits in this book that I am working to incorporate into my life. The one hitch in my giddyup is later in the book there is a whole section about taking her autistic 5 year-old son on an extensive trip through Mongolia and visiting many traditional healers and how her child, while not cured of autism. was "cured of the dysfunction" that came with his autism. The author does leave room that it may not have been the healers, but it definitely feels like that's the message and that felt very strange and a bit uncomfortable. It also felt a bit out-of-the-blue considering the other messaging in the book.

In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites listeners into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her - from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work to her time spent at the world's most famous address. An inspiring look at Michelle's life through 2016
Revisado: 04-04-23
A compelling listen from Michelle Obama about her life from childhood through leaving the white house in 2016. I personally was more engaged by the pre-presidential campaign times, but the whole book is good. I did listen at 1.15x speed, which felt like a natural pace as Michelle spoke a bit slowly (but very precisely).

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

this one was difficult to stop listening to. it's a well told, painful, incredible story of one person's growth out of an abusive household into a person who trusts themselves. A long-standing best seller for a reason, this is a truly fascinating and inspiring personal story.
