Historia
When 16-year-old Tariq Johnson dies from two gunshot wounds, his community is thrown into an uproar. Tariq was black. The shooter, Jack Franklin, is white. In the aftermath of Tariq's death, everyone has something to say, but no two accounts of the events line up. Day by day, new twists further obscure the truth. Tariq's friends, family, and community struggle to make sense of the tragedy, and to cope with the hole left behind when a life is cut short.

gives perspective on race.

this book gives a good perspective of the bias diverse youth face on a daily basis and the injustices they endure. it also gives the reader a clear feeling of what opportunities our diverse populations do not get compared to our white populations.

Historia
By age 12, Luis Rodriguez was a veteran of East L.A. gang warfare. Lured by a seemingly invincible gang culture, he witnessed countless shootings, beatings, and arrests, then watched with increasing fear as that culture claimed friends and family members. Before long, Rodriguez saw a way out of the barrio through education and successfully broke free from years of violence and desperation.

Must Read!!
Revisado: 07-12-17
I am a high school teacher in a school that is highly diverse with 68% of the population being Hispanic. I teach a reading and writing support class for students performing below grade level. I hear these stories from students, so I try to bring cultural diversity into my classroom teaching so that I can reach as many students as possible and give them the tools to think critically about tough matters. With this said, this book is amazing!! I wish I could get the areas of town who hold on to the institutionalized prejudices brought up in this book to read this, so they could begin to realize what minorities have faced and contiue to face in our so called "Free" society, and to see why we need programs in place to "even the playing grounds" for our oppressed citizens! I also think the author does a good job of not making this all about race wars, but also about the class systems that DO exist in American society!! Terrific book!!

Amazing
Revisado: 07-20-16
I picked up a sigma force book from my local library and loved it! I was driving a lot to and from work and school so I decided to get audio books for the car rides. After getting the one book I quickly went back to the library and got the remaining 3... they were super expensive to buy without an audible account... I still find it a bit pricey, but I am happy to be getting through the Sigma Force series! It's adventurous, suspenseful and it users a lot of real history and science in each novel! Worth reading for sure!
