Historia
Some lines should never be crossed. Police corruption, an investigation that ends in tragedy and the mystery of a little girl’s silence – three unconnected events that will prove to be linked by one small town. While detective Cormac Reilly faces enemies at work and trouble in his personal life, garda Peter Fisher is relocated out of Galway with the threat of prosecution hanging over his head. But even that is not as terrible as having to work for his overbearing father, the local copper for the pretty seaside town of Roundstone.

Interesting and converging plot lines, driven by carefully developed characters. Well paced. Ireland described beautifully and with fondness.

Too much need to suspend disbelief
Revisado: 09-21-24
Although it is an entertaining read, there are too many times that I found myself thinking, "Oh, come on, that's just a little too hard to believe."

Missing Vera and Perez
Revisado: 04-24-23
The plot and story were good, but the character development (especially the detective) was not up to the standard I enjoy in other Cleeves novels.

always satisfying
Revisado: 12-28-20
Ann Cleeves is definitely a favorite, because she combines personality insights, Shetland Island atmosphere and a good mystery. I struggle with this narrator, though, because his voices for Jimmy and Sandy make them sound elderly (to me) when they are not.

audio uneven
Revisado: 08-07-20
I really enjoyed these performances and the stories that supported them . . . .but to hear the actors, I had to turn up the volume. Then the interlude music would be painful, because it was much louder and clearer than the actors. With the magic of today's audio editing technology, I have to believe it would be an easy fix to edit the volume of the music to one more compatible with the spoken performance.

Too contrived, and too introspective
Revisado: 10-07-14
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
So so. Diverting but not satisfying. I like introspective, brooding detectives, but the main character in this novel spent too much introspective time. (French and her editor were both a little too indulgent of this experienced detective . . . .)
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Not at all surprised.
Which character – as performed by Heather O'Neill – was your favorite?
O'Neill is excellent. Characters have very few redeeming qualities.
Do you think The Likeness needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
For me, no . . . .no follow up to The Likeness, but would appreciate if French could get back to the characters and interactions of the preceeding book. It was much better -
