Historia
From one of Outside magazine's "Literary All-Stars" comes the thrilling true tale of the fastest boat ride ever, down the entire length of the Colorado River and through the Grand Canyon, during the legendary flood of 1983. In the spring of 1983, massive flooding along the length of the Colorado River confronted a team of engineers at the Glen Canyon Dam with an unprecedented emergency that may have resulted in the most catastrophic dam failure in history.

A classic true tale of adventure and passion
Revisado: 05-04-18
Great story of the Grand Canyon and the people who are intimately connected to it. A lovely history of the boats that run the river and the efforts to save the wildness of nature.
If you have any interest in this precious wonder of the world and why it’s worth saving this is a must.
The narrator does am excellent job telling this story.

The great unknown of the Southwest is conquered by a one-armed man and his crew of adventurers, placing the Colorado River and the Grand Canyon on the map of the American continent. It is a journey no human being had ever made before. Dangerous rapids, narrow canyon walls offering no escape, terrifying river waterfalls, capsized boats, near drowning, lost equipment and disillusioned men are dramatically described by John Wesley Powell, leader of this adventurous party.

Unfortunate Narration

terrible narration
Revisado: 04-13-18
This is an incredible story of a singular man. He leads a group of dedicated men accomplishing the extraordinary feat of exploring the greatest canyon in the world. It mixes the scientific information with a story of adventure and courage.
The narration was so bad I found myself clenching my teeth. If I hadn't been caught by the text I never would have finished. I was glad when it was over.

A let down after the first 2 in the series
Revisado: 12-02-17
The characters were well written and I enjoyed the way the conflicts between them developed.
There was much repetition, often descriptions were repeated and characters were reintroduced, restating relationships and settings that had been well established. This made the story drag and hindered the pace.
The story became very predictable. Important events were foreshadowed so obviously it drained the tension or suspense.
John Lee, as always, did a very good job.

silly and childish

I bought this book after reading all the good reviews but it is a waste of a credit. The start introduces the principle character and captured my attention, but then becomes predictable and repetitive. Maybe ok for young teens.

Melodramatic
Revisado: 12-28-16
The historical material is very interesting, unfortunately the characters become clichés. They are one dimensional, causing me to roll my eyes at much of the dialogue.
There are so many great World War II novels that include strong female characters. This one is not worth the time.
