Required Reading for Every Single Westerner

This book will make you question almost everything about the way you live if you are a "first world" resident. Everyone should have to read it. And I don't say that often about books. No one but Annie Leonard herself could have narrated this book with so much passion. It's contagious and I can't wait to get started.

Christ is All

This book is timeless and deserves five stars because of how saturated it is with Christ. The author points to him over and over and over and over in nuanced, surprising, and beautiful ways. Ryles' deep affection and trust in Jesus is evident on every page. The rhythm of his writing style is a perfect match for an audio book. I almost wonder if it would have been less enjoyable had I read it instead of listened to it. I completely agree with another reviewer's comment that Ralph Cosham's voice must be very close to what Ryles sounded like. His performance was phenomenal.

The Fish is Made Aware of the Water

There's a saying (I don't know the origin) about how fish don't know they are in water even though they eat, sleep, breathe and spend every moment of their lives in the water...
This book has made me aware of the water. It's difficult to express just how much this book opened my eyes. I so completely bought into our culture's obsession with "radical" living that when I first read the title and synopsis, I thought it was a joke...some sort of satirical riff. But I'm so thankful that for whatever reason, I dove in anyway. Down the road, I imagine that I will look back and discover that this book has marked me.

If Only We All Were So Fiercely Convicted

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narrator frequently mispronounced words, especially proper names, such as William Cowper and Magdalen College. These pronunciations cannot be credited to simply a difference between American and British English. She also had a way of pausing in the middle of a sentence that was sometimes confusing. But other than that, her narration was a great match for the story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. It was very good, but I found that I needed breaks from it occasionally.

Any additional comments?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I knew nothing of Hannah More before I read this book. Her life is inspiring and provides fresh perspective on the world and culture. You can't help but hear her story as a call to action against the injustices of our day. This book also made me reflect on the way I live out my own faith.

"We're all theologians"

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and learned a lot. Kevin Deyoung does an excellent job of walking through the catechism. This book was my first introduction to the Heidelberg Catechism. After reading this book, I definitely plan on using the catechism in ministry and my own walk with God. The author's love for the catechism, theology, and God's word is infectious. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is new to the catechism, like me, or even someone who has been familiar with it for years, and would like to see it with new eyes. This book felt like a conversation. Every time a part of the catechism made me want to object, or raise a question in me, the author answered/addressed it. I appreciated how many times I was challenged by the material. I also found the case for infant baptism compelling. I have never heard anyone defend it's Scriptural basis before, as it is not practiced in my denomination.
