Always a classic
Revisado: 06-05-22
Forget the movies. They're never going to be as good as the book.
Find a wonderful audio book and listen to it live. Give nothing to the movie companies. Books are all that matters. Big screens try to lull you with garbage and poor screenwriting. Book authors put real bones to stories.
I'll take a book every time.

Historia
Everything, well, almost everything, you know about American history is wrong because most textbooks and popular history books are written by left-wing academic historians who treat their biases as fact. But fear not; Professor Thomas Woods refutes the popular myths in The Politically Incorrect Guide to American History.

Want proof of lies about our past? Go no further.
Revisado: 04-22-22
The author takes the time to walk through our American history and expose the lies currently being taught in schools today. Public, private and historical documents are discussed while looking at controversial moments. Personal and political motivations are exposed from event records and personal accounts.
This book will help you to see history without the political blinders placed on you by our current media and political leaders.

Historia
The U.S. Constitution was approved by the Constitutional Convention on September 17, 1787. It was to become law only if it was ratified by nine of the 13 states. New York was a key state, but it contained strong forces opposing the Constitution. A series of 85 letters appeared in New York City newspapers between October 1787 and August 1788 urging support for the Constitution. These letters remain the first and most authoritative commentary on the American concept of federal government.

An authors view of the Federalist Papers
Revisado: 04-09-22
If I wanted to know what the author thought, I'd have asked him.
I wanted to listen to the reader as I followed along with my own copy of the Federalist Papers. It's an odd habit, I know, but when I have a copy I like to hear someone read it aloud as I follow along. Must be a leftover habit from grade school.
This is the authors choice parts of the Federalist Papers, not the actual works themselves. It's obvious that the author is leaving out major parts and interpolating (interpreting for himself) others.
I cannot recommend this book. The readers voice is nice. It's the only nice thing about this book.

Historia
He was a survivor - a wanderer who traded tales for food and shelter in the dark and savage aftermath of a devastating war. Fate touches him one chill winter’s day when he borrows the jacket of a long-dead postal worker to protect himself from the cold. The old, worn uniform still has power as a symbol of hope, and with it he begins to weave his greatest tale, of a nation on the road to recovery. This is the story of a lie that became the most powerful kind of truth.

The book is always better!!
Revisado: 03-26-22
I love this book!
I will grant that Kevin Costner is a great actor, though I can't see calling him Gordon throughout the movie. "Shakespeare" was a good choice for a name and the amazing cinematography... wow.
The book, however, leaves Mr. Costner on the floor.
Gordon is wonderful in his view of the world. He sees things the way we should all see them. He strives for a world where we can live in peace and respect! Treating others poorly is not acceptable. Even animals are deserving of our respect. What a world this would be if his views were the common ones.

I remember
Revisado: 12-12-19
I just relived that day.
My wife and I were coming back from Jamaica. It was the 10th of September. We had stopped in Florida to transfer planes, then were supposed to head to Dallas (at 6pm?) and then on to Oregon. Our flight was delayed repeatedly. I sat next to the pilot, at the gate, and asked him what was going on. He said he wasn't sure, but he thought it might be something to do with the plane. The entire flight crew waited with the passengers at the gate. We all wondered what was going on.
I think it must've been around 10 pm that we finally were okay to get on the plane. We were given the option to stay in Florida, or continue on to Dallas. Our luggage was headed west, so we stayed with it.
We landed at Dallas and were given a bus ride to a hotel for the night. In the flight there we were told that the airline would provide rooms at the airport hotel, then send us on to Portland in the afternoon.
I woke up feeling that something was off. I remember turning on CNN just in time to watch a replay of the first plane going in to the tower. The announcer interrupted the commentary to show a live shot of the second plane going in.
My wife and I sat on the bed, too shocked to speak. We held hands and watched, as the towers collapsed.
I don't remember much from our trip to Jamaica. We had pictures, I'm not sure where they went. I think the flight to Florida was nice. The airlines offered us coupons for discounted meals and airfare, if we wanted to fly with them in the future.
It took us almost two weeks to get back to Oregon.
I started to tense up when the live audio began. The tears started shortly after that. I guess you never get over certain events. Life happens, but some things stick with you.

Historia
Dale Maharidge’s father, like many World War II veterans, never talked about “the good war”. There was just one clue to his dad’s experience as a US Marine - a portrait with a close friend that hung permanently in their home. In The Dead Drink First, Dale, now a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, recounts his 18-year quest to find and repatriate the missing remains of his dad’s buddy, Herman Walter Mulligan, 73 years after he was killed in action.

Surprising
Revisado: 06-29-19
I was surprised at how choked up I got when everything came together.
The families that were touched, the lives impacted... I teared up and couldn't do anything but listen, captivated by the story.
We forget the sacrifice of those who went before us. History is there so we won't repeat the mistakes of the past. Their lives mattered to their families. Their lives should matter to us.
