A bit confusing

It's part of the canon, so it needs to be listened to, but with all the different voices it was occasionally difficult to keep track of who was who and what they were doing. Especially with sound effects and the somewhat insane AI sections - difficult to break out what I needed to hear from the background noise.

Realistic in that way, I'll admit, but somewhat difficult to follow.

Shorter than I expected

I probably missed a description somewhere, so I thought this was biography of Marie Curie. It is, but it is primarily about her time at the Sorbonne prior to starting a romantic relationship with Pierre Curie.

A bit of a language warning

This was an entertaining tale, although I do wish they had included the rest of the feast - it seemed to end after the fourth or fifth course. But the biography, particularly from many sources, was very interesting.
I just wish that the use of the f-bomb and related terminology (not written by Twain) had been eliminated. It was rare enough that its absence would not have been missed.

Not The Martian

This one took awhile to finish. The narrator is excellent, with a spot-on voice for the protagonist (well, the lead, at least) who narrates the novel. Very first person.

It does take some getting used to the fact the protagonist is not entirely savory.

And she has a thing for grandiose plans that, well, don't always go to plan.

Eventually you sort of warm up to her. At least you want her to succeed.

And then you just want her to survive.

Cliffhanger to Cliffhanger

The series stays good and unpredictable.

The author keeps repeating things that he has said before though - sometimes not that far before.

And... It ends in another cliffhanger, just like the last one did.

I wonder how long we will have to wait for book 5?

Hope for a continuation of the series...

No need to bring on another "death to the universe" alien species, but the author has a fertile mind for inventing planets and showing some of the things that happen during exploration.
It would be fun to go along with the Bobs as they continue to explore the universe.

Enjoying the series

The narrator is doing a good job of adding enough nuances to the characters to keep them separate.

The author is doing a good job of keeping the story going along. And even without Skippy the sarcastic beer can, it is still a good story, and fills in some holes and backstory.

Space Opera - Hooah!

What happens when the alien invasion - and rescue - aren't what they seem? And you discover that humanity is barely hanging onto the lowest rung of the ladder...

The author writes a good yarn with mostly believable military elements, and a proper Deus ex Machina when needed. The aliens are a bit out of Central Casting, but it still works.

The narration is good, with authentic voices, particularly when the above mentioned Deus shows up.
