Historia
Brandon P. Fleming grew up in an abusive home and was shuffled through school, his passing grades a nod to his skill on the basketball court, not his presence in the classroom. He turned to the streets and drug deals by 14, saved only by the dream of basketball stardom. When he suffered a career-ending injury during his first semester at a Division I school, he dropped out of college, toiling on an assembly line, until depression drove him to the edge. Miraculously, his life was spared. Returning to college, Fleming was determined to reinvent himself as a scholar.

Great Info on the History of the Bronx

Very well researched, and informative. Sometimes the history went so in depth I found myself zoning out, but overall a worthwhile listen.

Historia
William Waters grew up in a house silenced by tragedy, where his parents could hardly bear to look at him, much less love him—so when he meets the spirited and ambitious Julia Padavano in his freshman year of college, it’s as if the world has lit up around him. With Julia comes her family, as she and her three sisters are inseparable: Sylvie, the family’s dreamer, is happiest with her nose in a book; Cecelia is a free-spirited artist; and Emeline patiently takes care of them all.

Historia
A landslide has closed the Korowai Pass on New Zealand’s South Island, cutting off the town of Thorndike and leaving a sizable farm abandoned. The disaster presents an opportunity for Birnam Wood, an undeclared, unregulated, sometimes-criminal, sometimes-philanthropic guerrilla gardening collective that plants crops wherever no one will notice. For years, the group has struggled to break even. To occupy the farm at Thorndike would mean a shot at solvency at last. But the enigmatic American billionaire Robert Lemoine also has an interest in the place.

Decent story but ended abruptly
Revisado: 06-14-23
The writing was excellent, storyline took a minute to get into, but was interesting and you came to like the characters. All of a sudden I have an hour left of the story, and I’m wondering how this will wrap up in only an hour. I think the ending could’ve been expanded a bit.

Historia
From 1915 to 1970, this exodus of almost six million people changed the face of America. Wilkerson compares this epic migration to the migrations of other peoples in history. She interviewed more than a thousand people, and gained access to new data and official records, to write this definitive and vividly dramatic account of how these American journeys unfolded, altering our cities, our country, and ourselves.

Wonderful Insight
Revisado: 08-03-22
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Very difficult to hear what went on not so long ago, but an excellent book following three African Americans’ stories about their move to the north and western parts of the country from the south during the great migration. You get to know and empathize with these people. Should be required reading in schools.

Wonderfully Written
Revisado: 03-12-22
This book was excellent! It was eloquently written with such beautiful descriptions. A couple of parts were a little predictable but the writing and the story and how everything tied together was perfect. Subject matter may be depressing for some. I thought the narration was done well, too, Absolutely worth reading; I highly recommend!

Great Book, lots of Information
Revisado: 07-31-20
I thought this was good, with a lot of factual info. It was interesting but dry and hard for me to stay with at times. I enjoyed Litt’s other book so I downloaded this one. He does his research and knows the information.

I find his style of writing so intriguing. I love how he connects the characters and their stories. The narrator was great too- he did a nice job conveying the story.
