A beautiful story!
Revisado: 11-15-18
This is a gripping and heartbreaking memoir and story. I learned a lot about day-to-day life for this wonderful family. Details about The German deliberate and grinding destruction of the Jews is sobering, and of course frightening. in today’s environment. is so plausible to see how a fragile democracy could collapse into dictatorship.

A superb novel of almost historical fiction
Revisado: 10-27-18
A really wonderful novel that reads like historical fiction. I could not stop listening. It often broke my heart learning about how the Nazi tyranny affected people at the individual level. The story is inspiring because the good people win in the end. The writing is excellent, as is the narration.

Very strange narrator?
Revisado: 09-19-18
The narrator ruined it for me. He sounded almost robotic. His pronunciation of Israeli names of streets and people was stilted, often wrong. The story was difficult to follow, jumping around, with poor introduction to new chapters.

Historia
Peter Guillam, staunch colleague and disciple of George Smiley of the British Secret Service, otherwise known as the Circus, is living out his old age on the family farmstead on the south coast of Brittany when a letter from his old service summons him to London. The reason? His Cold War past has come back to claim him. Intelligence operations that were once the toast of secret London, and involved such characters as Alec Leamas, Jim Prideaux, George Smiley, and Peter Guillam himself, are to be scrutinized by a generation with no memory of the Cold War.

A Brilliant Return To The Past!
Revisado: 10-12-17
The easiest to read book of all his works. A wonderful journey into the past, pulling it all together. Beautifully written, never a dull moment, no page skipping. And of course, very illuminating on the long history of his characters.

Historia
One hundred thousand years ago, at least six human species inhabited the Earth. Today there is just one. Us. Homo sapiens. How did our species succeed in the battle for dominance? Why did our foraging ancestors come together to create cities and kingdoms? How did we come to believe in gods, nations, and human rights; to trust money, books, and laws; and to be enslaved by bureaucracy, timetables, and consumerism?

Revisado: 03-07-17
This is really a wonderful book, well written, and never dull. If you want to understand anything about the development of human beings, from the beginning of time, this is an ideal way to do it. The writing is clear the content balanced, and the individual examples are engaging. I did not want it to end!

And I'm in a story for our time
Revisado: 02-22-17
Yes I listen to this I heard two themes:
The terrible power of fear,
Resonance with what is starting to happen in America now. Immigrants and Muslims feel it now, and who will be next?
No wasted words in this short book. It is beautifully written and the performance is excellent.
This is creative nonfiction at its best.
The slow destruction of people is so sad.

Historia
Forty years ago Israeli psychologists Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky wrote a series of breathtakingly original studies undoing our assumptions about the decision-making process. Their papers showed the ways in which the human mind erred systematically when forced to make judgments about uncertain situations. Their work created the field of behavioral economics, revolutionized Big Data studies, advanced evidence-based medicine, led to a new approach to government regulation, and made Michael Lewis' work possible.

This book should be read by anyone who makes decisions, and that means everyone! A great review of a friendship and collaboration that changed how we view decision-making for everyone from the individual, group, national and international perspectives. It is easy to read/listen, and a wonderful story, in fact it's heartbreaking in a way.

To understand South Africa!
Revisado: 12-03-16
This book should be read by all white South Africans and any foreigner interested in understanding South Africa . He really explain apartheid from the black perspective in very simple terms, but very accurate. Some of it is funny and a lot of it is tragic, but ultimately he is the man of great intelligence, and tolerant of what apartheid did to all SA people especially those not white..
