Historia
The invented history of the Western world is crumbling fast, Anishinaabe writer Patty Krawec says, but we can still honor the bonds between us. Settlers dominated and divided, but Indigenous peoples won't just send them all "home." Weaving her own story with the story of her ancestors and with the broader themes of creation, replacement, and disappearance, Krawec helps listeners see settler colonialism through the eyes of an Indigenous writer.

Concise and well presented
Revisado: 07-04-24
I've read several books along the lines of this one. This book adds additional perspective as well as has suggestions on how to move forward. The author did an excellent job presenting her viewpoint and reading the book. There is much work that all of us need to do to make our world a better place for All and this book is a great place to start. Well done, I highly recommend it.

Empowering!!!
Revisado: 06-06-24
Excellent explanation of what has gone wrong with our environment and how to fix it. Everyone, yes YOU!, can do something to help! Before I read this, I had decided I wanted to live in the woods and had started to plant native trees around my house. Now I really understand how important this is. Plus I learned what else I can and will do! This is AWESOME!! Thanks for a great book!!

Excellent perspective
Revisado: 02-20-24
This is a very well presented and very well researched view of how religion has evolved and how it has oppressed. I wish everyone would read this and give themselves an opportunity to have a different perspective and an open mind. I don't know what it will take to wake people up.

Wisdom with love
Revisado: 01-04-24
I'm incredibly grateful for Grandfather Marshall's wisdom. His stories validate my life experiences in a way that gives me peace. I have always struggled with modern life. I retreated to nature and communicate with the plants and animals, I now know that I'm not crazy. My sincerest thanks! Mitakuye Oyasin

Historia
Speaking from the cultural viewpoint of the Lakota of the northern Plains, the author discusses the evolution of native cultures to fit within the environment and adapt to it, as opposed to changing it drastically or wholesale to fit human needs and comforts. He suggests that changing our contemporary thinking in relating to the earth in a less harmful way does not mean a drastic change in lifestyles....

Historia
From childhood, Laura James knew she was different. She struggled to cope in a world that often made no sense to her, as though her brain had its own operating system. It wasn't until she reached her 40s that she found out why: Suddenly and surprisingly, she was diagnosed with autism. With a touching and searing honesty, Laura challenges everything we think we know about what it means to be autistic. Married with four children and a successful journalist, Laura examines the ways in which autism has shaped her career, her approach to motherhood, and her closest relationships.

Refreshingly Honest
Revisado: 12-31-22
At age 57, I became aware that I am on the autism spectrum. Since then, I have read numerous books by autistic writers hoping to understand myself better. This book made me feel understood. Laura dares to verbalize things I have thought and wondered about but was too afraid to express. I greatly appreciate her honesty and candor. I highly recommend this book.

Historia
Sometimes you slip through the cracks: unforeseen circumstances like an abrupt illness, the death of a loved one, a breakup, or a job loss can derail a life. These periods of dislocation can be lonely and unexpected. For May, her husband fell ill, her son stopped attending school, and her own medical issues led her to leave a demanding job. Wintering explores how she not only endured this painful time, but embraced the singular opportunities it offered. Ultimately Wintering invites us to change how we relate to our own fallow times.

Historia
In anticipation of her 38th birthday, Katherine May set out to walk the 630-mile South West Coast Path. She wanted time alone, in nature, to understand why she had stopped coping with everyday life; why motherhood had been so overwhelming and isolating; and why the world felt full of expectations she couldn't meet. She was also reeling from a chance encounter with a voice on the radio that sparked her realisation that she might be autistic.

Perfect!!!
Revisado: 10-20-22
This amazing story that so mirrors my own is like finding my way home. I am so incredibly grateful to Katherine for sharing her story so eloquently and thoroughly enjoyed her reading it too.. I also, feel the electricity in everything but lacked the ability to describe it. It is eye opening, thoughtful and perfect in every way.
I was diagnosed with ASD as a child but was not told. I was forced to mask and I was punished when I failed to appear normal. At 57, I finally figured out that I am on the spectrum and finally understood why my life has been so hard. Three years later, I am still working to understand who I am and accept myself. There are no words to describe how thankful I am for this insightful book, I have found it comforting and it has expanded my perspective. Thank you!!!!
If you have been diagnosed with ASD as an adult, I highly recommend this.
