Died trying too hard
Revisado: 01-18-11
I usually like Reacher, but this story was just too implausible, and dragged on too long.

Charming and different
Revisado: 12-05-09
Not your usual crime novel, the unassuming lead is as interesting as the mystery itself! Nice mix of humor and mystery. More Hamish MacBeth!

Historia
"If Robert Littell didn't invent the American spy novel," says Tom Clancy, "he should have." In this spectacular Cold-War-as-Alice-in-Wonderland epic, Littell, "the American le Carre," takes us down the rabbit hole and into the labyrinthine world of espionage that has been the CIA for the last half-century. "Ostensibly a single novel, The Company can also be listened to as an anthology of cracking good spy stories," says ( Publishers Weekly).

Totally absorbing
Revisado: 11-17-07
I'm listening to this book for the second time - and even knowing some of its plot surprises does not detract from the overall enjoyment of the "read." Although fiction, this book is grounded so thoroughly in reality that almost every modern day news item reminds me of some aspect of this book.

Historia
This sequel to Gibbons' beloved classic Ellen Foster stands on its own as an unforgettable portrait of a redoubtable adolescent making herself up out of whole cloth. Now 15, Ellen is settled into a permanent home with a new mother. Strengthened by adversity and blessed with enough intelligence to design a salvation for herself, she still feels ill at ease in the world.

Avoid author-read books
Revisado: 10-07-06
After only 30 minutes, I had to turn this book off. Maybe it's a great book, but I will not find out. An audio book needs to be "performed" - not simply read. This is the second time I have been burned by an author-read book, and I will avoid them in the future.
