Historia
Shadows of the Empire illuminates the shadowy outlines of a criminal conspiracy that exists in the background of the events in the movies, ruled by a character new to us. Prince Xizor is a mastermind of evil who dares to oppose one of the best-known fictional villains of all time: Darth Vader. The story involves all the featured Star Wars movie characters, plus Emperor Palpatine and, of course, Lord Vader himself.

Historia
Deep down here by the dark water lived old Gollum, a small slimy creature. I don’t know where he came from, nor who or what he was. He was Gollum—as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face. He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake; for lake it was, wide and deep and deadly cold.

Historia
Thrawn’s latest triumph still rests newly on his shoulders. He has led the Chiss to victory and brought glory to the House of Mitth, but the true threat to the Ascendancy has not yet been extinguished. Their foes do not send threats or ultimatums, do not mass ships on the edge of the Chaos. Their weapons come cloaked in smiles and generosity: Gifts offered freely. Services granted unconditionally. Across the Ascendancy, seemingly inconsequential events could herald the doom of the Chiss.

Historia
I've hated Rachel Dawson since I was seven years old. My next-door neighbor and number-one sworn enemy - she's the reason why almost all of our childhood fights ended with me setting something of hers on fire. (Or, vice versa.) She snitched on me when I broke curfew. I snitched on her when she lied about having a boyfriend. We went back and forth like this throughout high school, both vowing to never talk to each other again when we went off to college. But that was until she showed up at my apartment during my senior year and asked me for a temporary place to stay.

Cute romance
Revisado: 03-07-21
Cute enemies-to-lovers college romance. I would recommend to my romance loving friends. Rachel and Ethan, two frenemies who profess to hate each other. Despite this, they've kept in touch through letters since they were seven. It didn't matter if they were right nextdoor or half a world away. Our story really begins senior year of college, where a series of unfortunate events leads to them being roommates. They find their relationship changing, or merely evolving, into something new. Maybe what it was always meant to be all along.

All wrapped up
Revisado: 03-04-21
An ok ending to a great series. Can't say it's my favorite book in the whole series, but it wraps up all the loose threads quite nicely. I can only assume this is the end for these characters, unless we see them pop up occasionally in other people's stories. I'm sorry to see them go if that does turn out to be the case. I've really enjoyed Ian and Veritas's romance. They are not two characters I would have thought to put together. I guess that's why I'm not a bestselling author. This book seemed a little more contrived than previous installments. I got the sense that she didn't put as much thought into the storyline. Maybe she didn't know where she wanted to go with these characters after she finished the last book. There definitely wasn't as much set up as there usually is. The beginning is the part that I found the most contrived. It felt very shoehorned in. The overall book kind of felt that way. I found the ending to be a little abrupt but other than that it came to a satisfying ending. If you want to know what happens...read the book.

Historia
It began on New Year’s Eve. The sickness came on suddenly, and spread quickly. The fear spread even faster. Within weeks, everything people counted on began to fail them. The electrical grid sputtered; law and government collapsed - and more than half of the world’s population was decimated. Where there had been order, there was now chaos. And as the power of science and technology receded, magick rose up in its place.

Not sure how I feel about this one
Revisado: 01-06-21
This is going to be a hard review for me to write. Mostly because I'm not sure how I feel about the book. My feelings aren't conflicted as much as simply complicated(oxymoron?). I found the story riveting from the very beginning and could barely put it down. The confusion comes from the fact I'm not sure I could say that I liked the story. I can't say I disliked it. I didn't find it entertaining, but it certainly held my interest. It wasn't a sweet story, but there were sweet, heartfelt moments. I'm not sure what genre I'd put it in. Fantasy horror with a little romance sprinkled in? See what I mean? Complicated.
I imagine my experience with this book would have been very different if I'd listened to it back in 2018 when I bought it. Instead, I started it in January 2021 😂🤣😭😭 I found the beginning of this book very difficult to listen to. I almost had to turn it off. I managed to power through and I'm glad that I did. I found the rest easier to finish. That said, I would offer a warning, this book deals with a devastating pandemic and its aftereffects. Anyone particularly sensitive to that subject due to current world issues should probably steer clear.
Overall, I found this book to be a fresh take on the post apocalyptic survival story. It is also a fantasy story with peoples other than human, including what could be termed as the main protagonists. It's not the first book I've read where a disaster greatly reduces the human population and, as a result, they suddenly find out that witches and fairies exist, but even that had an interesting twist to it. This is one of the more unique stories I've read in a long time. So if you are looking for something off the beaten path, give it a whirl.
While the series is written as a trilogy, the main story arc does have a somewhat satisfying ending. I'd term it happy-for-now I guess. I look forward to starting the next book which I already own. I'm planning to start it in the next few days, after taking just a little more time to process this one. I usually start sequels as soon as the first book ends, but it seemed like a good idea to give this one a little space. I'm not meaning to be dramatic, it's really not that bad. In some ways, I suppose that's worse. I'm mostly a romance reader, but I dive into horror on occasion when I'm looking for something different. With horror you expect it, so it doesn't effect you the same. When there are both triumphs and losses, it makes the losses all the more devastating. I do want to get to the sequel though. I'm hoping to find out what happened to certain people as there's a cliffhanger of sorts. The sequel seems to be set 13 years later. Which I can't say makes me very happy on that front, but hopefully I'll still discover the fates of all the characters I've come to care about. I think this turned into less of a review and more of a rant. Sorry for that.

Glad I took a chance on this one...
Revisado: 01-01-21
This is the first book I've listened to by this author and I quite enjoyed it. It's a fantasy romance along a completely different vain than any I've read before and I really liked it. Our two heroes are from two different races that find each other hideous which lent a good deal of humor to the story. They only come together as part of an arranged marriage to secure a political alliance and trade agreement between their two kingdoms. They first meet by chance in the garden on their wedding day, not at first realizing who the other is. This makes for a nice little introduction, not only into these two characters, but into the greater world building. There are a lot of themes in this book beyond the romance that apply to the real world outside, especially regarding cultural misinformation and misunderstandings both big and small. There's a lot we could learn from these characters and how they handle many of these situations that could be applied locally and on a global scale. Thank you Ms. Draven for giving this story some true depth. The romance ain't bad either 😉
A little bit of a warning to those it might bother...there is a second book and a bit of a cliffhanger at the end. Also there were some technical issues. The narrator mispronounced a few words but nothing too egregious. There were a few editing errors where there was background noise, it skipped or something, a word or phrase repeated, narrator made a weird noise. It was still very listenable. I've certainly heard worse.

Sam Parker is a vampire with a gift so strong and substantial that she is invited to partake in a test for a place in the Grand High Master Vampire's private army. She finds that not only has the army never included a woman, but it has never included a Svente vampire; a breed that is regarded by the super strong Pagori breed and the hypnotically beautiful Keja breed to be too tame and human-like.

Not this author's best work
Revisado: 12-13-20
I bought this book because I'm a fan of Suzanne Wright. I love her Phoenix and Mercury Pack series. I expected to like her vampire series just as much. Unfortunately I find myself somewhat disappointed. It's not that it was a bad book, I just found the story to be rather meh. I think it had a lot of potential but there just seemed to be something important missing. It's possible I'm not being fair to the story though. I might have found it more enjoyable with different narrators. Both of the narrators ruined this one for me. I found the female narration to be average and boring but worlds better than the male narration which was just atrocious.

Five years ago, the US Space Force became a reality. And while those writing the checks took things very seriously, the other military branches did not. As a result, Space Force was populated by undesirables. My name is Captain Ethan Stone, a decorated member of SEAL Team Six turned Space Force "recruit". Flash forward five years and between tenses. President West is in office. Power has shifted. And Space Force is defunded. With just a handful of us still living on base, we find ourselves being evicted. But before all of us can leave, aliens invade.

Entertaining
Revisado: 11-15-20
Not my usual cup of tea, but I found it to be thoroughly entertaining. This was the first book I read by this author and I would certainly be willing to read another. While I didn't find this book to be laugh-out-loud funny, it was humorous throughout. It did get a few good chuckles out of me. I would recommend this book to someone who enjoys funny, wacky stories and isn't easily offended or squeamish.
