good story, but predictable
Revisado: 02-06-25
I liked the story for the most part. It seems very predictable, I'm sure there are future plots that I've already worked out. It ended almost exactly as predicted it would from the beginning. Not sure if it was written intentionally to be that way, but I don't anticipate any surprises. Also, I've never complained about a narrator, but whenever the female narrator spoke parts of high emotion, it was just very whiney. I don't think it was intentional, but it makes me want to read the rest in book form. I imagine the character being strong but the way she says things I just can't see it.

An opportunity arises when her own mate is revealed to be the King of the Blood Court. good start to series
Revisado: 05-23-22
I would recommend this book for someone looking for a new series. The author went a more plausible route with openly discussing the main characters having multiple sexual partners, even after they find their mate. They are immortal after all and I found this story more in line with what I would expect. There are some unique takes on immortality too, like becoming vulnerable to death once in love...how do you choose? The end could have been a cliffhanger but didn't really feel like one. I would like to think that story isn't over yet (no spoiler but if you read it you'll understand). I am intrigued as to what is going to happen next and will look for next book!

not a happy story but one worth reading
Revisado: 02-27-22
I really like when authors combine a series together, it makes binge reading so much easier and with the endings to each book the way they are, this is really the only way to enjoy this book. I'm quite happy I didn't read it in peices and had to wait for the next one. I needed time to process this story when it ended. I am still confused and then after reading other reviews I'm pretty sure thats not going to change. However, there were alot of good parts and I did enjoy the overall story. Most of the reviews focus on the ending so I'll try to focus on everything else.
The perspective of the story is from Ena after the whole story takes place, so before you hear the chapter you will hear her retrospective memory of the events that occured. The intros to some of the stories were sometimes hard to match to the story that came after, and often made me think something much worse was going to happen. I also think the narrator helped over exaggerate this as well. Also, I suspect that this book will be better on a second read because you know the ending and the real place she is telling the story from. It was hard to match this without knowing certain things first.
The beginning was a slow start but keeps it interesting from early on. I really like Ena as a strong female lead. I really liked all the females in this book and wish there were more female freindship building. I also loved Liam, Fynn, and Emmit. The males seem to be a little overboard on protectivness when it doesn't make sense though. I enjoyed the love/hate sibling dynamic and watching that relationship mend itself. Fynn adds good necessary humor to the story, he was my favorite character. For the first book i was intrigued by the love story that's not a love story (which did develop into a love story).
The writing style is very descriptive that helps try to paint the scene but while going through the story it just felt like filler words and overly dramatic. Now that I've finsihed it i am thinking back and reanalyzing my opinion. For example, she mentioned so many times she needed to touch the pendent to feel its warmth against her skin. It was kind of annoying while reading it but now I understand that description of the pendent changes at the end and is how we confirm a very specific detail. Actually I think alot of what she said will only make sense once you get to the end of the book, so keep that in mind if you haven't read it yet.
I really liked the complicated world dynamic with the guilds and blackbloods. The unique magic system of the mountain and it protecting its people was also cool and different. We never reached the bottom of the mountain's power and that story line but it doesn't take away my appreciation of the author's creativity.
There were a few times i thought I guessed who the traitors were but everytime I was wrong! I thought it would be a more obvious choice but the author kept the twists just enough so it didn't break your heart. Not that she doesn't break your heart, she does.
Now the ending. Do I love it? No. Does it make sense that everyone needed to be invovled? Not at all. Is it complete? Also no. However it does leave me with the ability to imagine the rest of Ena's life, as miserable as that will be. I can picture her just letting her wrath out on the world. Whose more dangerous then a person with absolutely nothing to lose and a desperate thirst for vengeance? I see her rallying the people to finally fight back on their own. Maybe even the rest of the blackbloods finally join. I am left the with the ability to finish the story the way I think it should be. Plus, not every ending needs to be HEA. The extent of the tragedy at the end is what is most shocking for me. As I was getting closer to the end I couldn't picture how it was going to be able to wrap up in such a short amount of time and then I understood why.
I'm intrigued with the whole story, the way it was written, and how it ended. If you are looking for something quite different to most fantasy books then I'd still recommend giving this a shot. Just know its not a happy story and definitely not a happy ending.

Jensen, Finn, Christian, and Rhys. One is my protector, another my best friend, the third my betrothed, and the fourth...something else entirely. And I want them all. I never thought I'd fall for more than one man, but then again, I didn't think I would wake up on my birthday the queen of the Shadow Court, hunted, in danger, and unable to control my newfound fae powers. Which seem to get stronger the more I give in to my need for these men. In order to claim my title, I have to complete a set of trials with my men at my side. But a dark force is out to kill me.

great performance, ok story (contains spoiler)
Revisado: 11-20-21
I had really high hopes for this book and was kinda let down by it. The narration was really good. I think it was decent considering it fit into one book but I don't think it should have. there were parts that seemed rushed or didn't make sense. I liked each of the male characters but the female lead just didn't offer hardly any personality whatsoever. The thing that bothers me the most is SPOILER....
how Finn seemed to be the last to receive anything from her (first sex and then a child, but really the whole relationship there felt one sided) yet was the first one to have a connection with her and attraction/tension. She told him no several times and then went and just slept with two of the other men. Because he was the lowly guard? I don't get it and it seemed so unfair it ruined the story for me a bit. I didn't develop a favorite male in the book, but the story length didn't have room for 4 them.

entertaining, great series
Revisado: 08-28-21
Two words summarize this book for me: sexy and hilarious. There are quite a few other things I like about this series as a whole, to include the female lead being a curvy girl and badass while not a superhero type. I can honestly say the chapter where Faris and Braham (since I listened and didn't read it I don't know the proper spellings) went grocery shopping and got piercings was the funniest thing I've ever read in a book ever. I literally laughed non stop out loud through the whole thing. It was one of those things I know will make this book stick out for me for a long time to come. Lots of fun, feelings, and angst. Hate the endings only because it means I have to wait for the rest!
The narrators are great, especially the guy with all the male characters. It's nice to be able to tell who the character is before or without the story telling you who it is, especially with so many males in this book. I really think they way they read it brings so much more life to it then just reading and I don't think that often.

Revisado: 06-10-21
I took some time after finishing to determine how I felt about this book and I'm still on the fence. As a story it is OK. The narrator did a decent job I think. This book is also very teen, but at times I thought it read as even younger. The premise is that there is a girl who gets pulled from her world to go act as the princess, who happens to be her long lost twin. Won't go into the details of how that happened. During her pretending very few people seem to.notice and of course her sister's fiance doesn't really love her sister but fancies her. Everyone seems to really like her immediately. She hates being there then one day doesn't wanna leave. In the end she gets everything she wants but how it happens is quick, vague, and honestly uneventful. I probably won't read book 2 because they are different characters and I didnt enjoy the story enough to continue in this world. I may have listened if it was the same just to complete the story line but this one wrapped up enough for these specific characters that I'm happy to leave it.

series wrapped up
Revisado: 06-10-21
This book had a slow start and took me a few chapters to get into it vs just listening to finish the story. The author came through though and of course it ended good. I was expecting one more book after this when I started it but this is the end. There are quite a few twists in it that I completely didn't see coming and they were good! The whole time til the very end I didn't see how Summer was going to get out of her marriage contract but we got our HEA. The side characters are more enjoyable to me then I think any of the main characters. You get angst, humor, and romance. Not my favorite series by her but think its worth a read.

The bullies aren't nearly as bad as in some other bully romances. The bonds are interesting, if not predictable. There is a MM relationship within the bond group and I loved everything about it. The story opened several secrets and is building up to something much larger that I can't honestly see where it will go next. Looking forward to book 2.

Once upon a time I met four monsters and thought the world would come to an end at their hands. But I was a fool. Because I didn’t understand the bigger picture. That the enemies I thought I knew would become the reason for my entire existence. My strength. My pain. My life. My love. The big bad wolf has teeth and claws as sharp as iron, and the danger before my eyes is blinding. So blinding that I didn’t see the true danger lurking in the dark. But now my eyes are wide open and I see it all.

best ending ever and new favorite series
Revisado: 05-17-21
I loved this series so much and was so worried about the hangover and it ending. I wanted insight to this crew's future real bad. I've never encountered an ending so thorough and perfect I really can't even put it into words. It started jumping to points in the future with about 2.5 hours left so that gives you an idea of all the milestones you get to witness. Pure perfection. Love these boys, love Tatum, love the story, and the happy ending was great. However, I do feel like Saint a little with that last line and not knowing what the damn squid meant...pretty sure it didn't have a meaning which makes it great but would love to have been filled in! I will be re-listening to this whole series again in the very near future.
