Historia
Billie is in her forties, running a little jewelry shop in Bradford, trying to live a quiet life, trying to forget the past. Because Billie has a lot of past to forget. She was a biker chick, one of the Devil's Own, the speed- and acid-fueled road demons. Her life was hurtling out of control, and it ended in murder. Now, years later, she has to face the consequences.

What did you love best about Billie Morgan?
Don't be fooled into thinking this is a book about a biker chick. It's about a messed up woman who has had a rough life from the time her father abandoned her. It's a Cinderella tale without the fairy godmother - well, except when she becomes the fairy godmother for another character in the book.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
I actually began this book and put it aside when the going got a little too disturbing. I finally forged forward when I ran out of new listens and am so glad I did. This has to be one of the best I have heard since I finished the Dragon Tattoo series. I only wish Audible would offer more of Ms Denby's novels. The plot meanders a bit, but with perseverance and patience, you will be rewarded with an incredible accounting of the life of Billie and the cast of characters that make up her world.
What about Joolz Denby’s performance did you like?
I have found novels narrated by the author's to be the best so far. I love good narrators and won't finish a book by a bad one. This one is an absolute must. You are watching real life in your mind as this book progresses. The characters in the book all have a life and sound of their own. At no time during this did I think "I wish she would sound more like a guy or an older woman." I was lost in the world of Billie Morgan!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I did have an extreme reaction to this book causing me to quit the book. Kind of like how I felt at the end of the first season of "Breaking Bad." I don't go in for violence for violence's sake. I don't know why, now that I have gone back and finished the book. It was not as bad as I thought at the time. I am so glad I went back to listen to it and so very much appreciate the way that Joolz Denby narrated this. The book is done mostly in first person and it was like I was in a room with Billie listening to her life story.
Any additional comments?
I think it's unfair to file this book under "Biker Chick Gone Wild". This is a fantastic story of a wronged child who grows up trying constantly to find someone who will love her and not abandon her. I feel strangely protective of this character. If only I could defend her from her "Mum" and let her know that she has worth. Strange that I felt this way by the end of the book. Wonderful tale, great job Joolz Denby!

Historia
In a New York City fifty years in the future, Detective Eve Dallas tracks down those who break the law - including the ones sworn to uphold it. Eve Dallas and her partner, Peabody, are following up on a brutal, senseless crime - an elderly grocery owner killed by three stoned punks for nothing more than kicks and snacks. And for the first time, Peabody is primary detective on the case, which means she has to get used to a new level of authority and responsibility. Good thing she learned the ropes from a master like Eve. But after rounding up the perps, Peabody stumbles upon a much trickier situation.

BRILLIANT! This is one of the best of the best!
Revisado: 06-17-11
Nothing gets me through the day like some time with NYPSD's famous Lieutenant Eve Dallas and her posse! This latest in the series is as good or better than any of the others - of which I have in my library the entire series. Kickin butt and takin names....Eve Dallas is my hero. Please don't make us wait too long for the next. Kuddos to author for your imagination in print, narrator (Susan Ericksen is phenomenal) and especially to the producers for making this available for download.

One of my Absolute Favorites!
Revisado: 11-05-10
Dark and British... puts me in that Dickens mood... I listened 3 times from start to finish. Each time I caught another piece of the puzzle. Well written and expertly narrated. I have followed Bianca Amato to her work with Alison Wier's The Innocent Traitor. I am in my vehicle all day and if a book is not written or narrated well, I can't listen. This one was a blue ribbon winner. Please, Ms. Setterfield.... more of the same!

Historia
The child of a scheming father and ruthless mother, Lady Jane Grey is born during a time when ambition dictates action. Cousin to Edward VI, Mary I, and Elizabeth I, she is merely a pawn in a political and religious game in which one false step means a certain demise. But Lady Jane has remarkable qualities that help her to withstand the constant pressures of the royal machinery far better than most expect.

Sequel to the Tudors?
Revisado: 11-05-10
Good listen. I can't imagine a better cast of narrators. This was interesting to me - having more than one voice. Davina Porter is the best! Bianca Amato did a wonderful job in Diane Setterfield's The Thirteenth Tale and as well here. A bit long, but I have all the time in the world to listen. I find it is fun to listen to fiction that has roots in truth and you can follow along with what you know of history. If you don't want to concentrate on who is who and related to whom, this is not the book for you.

New York Times best-selling author James Lee Burke's Dave Robicheaux novels began with this first hard-hitting entry in the series. In The Neon Rain, Detective Robicheaux fishes a prostitute's corpse from a New Orleans bayou and finds that no one, not even the law, cares about a dead hooker.

Gritty, Dark and Fantastic
Revisado: 11-05-10
In the vein of Mike Hammer, a real get down and dirty detective novel. A little humor, a bunch of action, good story line and I don't mind the flashbacks to 'Nam. Some are a little long but the story makes up for it in suspense. I will definitely read the next in the series. I am very pleased with Will Patton's narration. I don't know about Mark Hammer but I will be finding out. Glad to have a new series to listen to .... Just don't know how this is going to be a cop drama if he isn't going to be on the force.... or is he?

The prince has discovered a not-so-subtle threat directed toward the British royal family.

Excellent listen
Revisado: 11-05-10
Wow... is this a movie or going to be? This is everything the action movies of today are and more. Stokes is my absolute favorite! I have stayed away from the current wave of terrorist novels because I see enough of that on the news. I listen for entertainment and suspense. This book has opened a new world in listening for me and I will be enjoying another one of Mr Bell's books soon. - it really SHOULD be made into a movie, though!
John Shea has to be one of the best male narrators as well. Kuddos for an excellent listen!

Historia
The battle was raging, the air hot with smoke, loud with rifle fire. Then the air turned dim with an eerie mist, and for Jason Tarkenton, captain of the Confederate cavalry, the true nightmare began. Vickie Knox was today's woman dressed like yesterday's, wearing Yankee garb to play a part. But playacting ended when a Reb stepped out of the mist and took her prisoner--for real. They never should have met, never should have battled - never should have loved.

Don't!!!
Revisado: 05-07-10
This is my first bad review of the books I have downloaded. I would like a refund if that is possible. The narrator (although may be a nice person) needs to find another job. Fingernails on a chalk board! I don't even know if the story is good because I kept skipping through it to see if it got any better. Normally, I listen to the sample, but if I did, I did not catch the atrocious narration or slow slow slow story line. Save your money for something else, DON'T spend it on this!
