Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: When it comes to author/narrator pairings, nobody tops James Lee Burke and Will Patton in the Robicheaux thrillers. Beloved Burke hero Detective Dave Robicheaux here returns to New Iberia to solve a series of grisly murders. Seven young women in neighboring Jefferson Davis Parish have been brutally murdered. While the crimes have all the telltale signs of a serial killer, the death of Bernadette Latiolais, a high-school honor student, doesn’t fit.

A winner!

I'm a Robicheaux/Purcell addict, and thoroughly enjoyed this entry. I let out a sigh when the story ended, felt empty and full at the same time. I listen mostly when I walk my dog after work, and many summer evenings were stifling. It would have been easy to bail and enjoy the A/C with my feet up,but there was no way I was going to miss my date James Lee Burke.

Historia
Among the most self-assured and sharply crafted debuts in recent years, Calumet City detonates a Molotov cocktail of character-driven suspense and ghetto-Chicago intrigue. A powerful fiction debut that captures the precise emotional landscape of one cop's hard-bitten life in the trenches. This first-time author joins that rare breed whose fiction is suffused with profound authenticity.

Disappointing
Revisado: 01-21-10
I also selected this book because of Lee Childs' endorsement. I couldn't get past the reader's performance. I found her voice too breathy and unlikely for the character. The narrative was like a taffy pull. I gave up after an hour. I didn't look forward to the hours of commitment ahead. I'm pretty cheap, so giving up on a book that I paid good money for should tell you something!

Historia
It's not the dead that seem strange to Quirke. It's the living. One night, after a few drinks at an office party, Quirke shuffles down into the morgue where he works and finds his brother-in-law, Malachy, altering a file he has no business even reading. Odd enough in itself to find Malachy there, but the next morning, when the haze has lifted, it looks an awful lot like his brother-in-law, the esteemed doctor, was in fact tampering with a corpse—and concealing the cause of death.

Excellent Choice

I hesitated after reading reviews. So glad I took the plunge. Timothy Dalton was most definitely NOT boring or monotonic. The story was compelling and all the elements were neatly tied together by the end. I could imagine a juicy entry for MASTERPIECE THEATER or MYSTERY!

Historia
Bound by blood but divided by troubles as old as Cain and Abel, Moses Reed and Aaron Fox were first introduced in Kellerman’s bestselling Bones. They are sons of the same strong-willed mother, and their respective fathers were cops, partners, and friends. Their turbulent family history has set them at odds, despite their shared calling. Moses—part Boy Scout, part bulldog, man of few words—is a no-frills LAPD detective.

Disappointing

Nearly 4 hours into story and I'm not involved. By now, I should be deeply absorbed and connected to the story. Instead, I keep listening because I'm desperate to get my money's worth out of this purchase. If this had been a library selection, I would have bailed out and tried something new.
