Historia
A reluctant ex-spy with demons of her own, Elinor finds herself facing down one of the most dangerous organized crime gangs in London, ultimately exposing corruption from Scotland Yard to the highest levels of government. The private, quiet “Miss White" as Elinor is known, lives in a village in rural Kent, England, and to her fellow villagers seems something of an enigma. Well she might, as Elinor occupies a "grace and favor" property, a rare privilege offered to faithful servants of the Crown for services to the nation.

Story good. Not read well
Revisado: 10-12-23
This is a typically good Winspeare novel. But why oh why does an American actor narrate in an English accent? Ms Cassidy doesn’t know any of the English pronunciations of places like Harwich and Fenwicks. There are some other mispronunciations that just make you cringe. Shame as it mars a good story.

Historia
In this pulse-pounding short thriller for fans of Big Little Lies and The Last Mrs. Parrish, Maggie Cabot refuses to sit by idly as police re-open an investigation into the mysterious death of a woman her husband used to know. After two decades in a near-perfect marriage, Maggie and James Cabot are enjoying their first year as empty-nesters in their charming Florida suburb, until two detectives arrive at their front door and change their lives forever.

Complete twaddle
Revisado: 12-13-19
Very disappointed in this book. Characters have little to them and all the women featured are either do-nothing housewives, models, or run a beauty store. There is no tension. And the only lesson out of the story is that murder is perfectly excusable if you were drunk at the time, and now are a white, rich, doctor who serves his community (also white and rich) and your wife is too spineless to do anything about it. This book made me very annoyed. (And the author was obviously too lazy to do any research about Northwestern University's amazing lacrosse team, which is mentioned peripherally. The coach there is a highly successful woman not a man.)

Historia
In the 10 years since his classic Kitchen Confidential first alerted us to the idiosyncrasies and lurking perils of eating out, much has changed for the subculture of chefs and cooks, for the restaurant business and for Anthony Bourdain. Medium Raw explores those changes, tracking Bourdain's strange and unexpected voyage from journeyman cook to globe-traveling professional eater and drinker, and even to fatherhood. Bourdain takes no prisoners as he dissects what he's seen.

More like medium poor

Bourdain is just too pleased with himself for my taste. And the language will be rather too spicy for many.

Historia
Arch-swindler Moist von Lipwig never believed his crimes were hanging offenses, until he found himself with a noose around his neck, dropping through a trap door, and falling into...a government job? Getting the moribund Postal Service up and running again, however, may be an impossible task. Worse, the new Postmaster could swear the mail is talking to him.

An excellent listen
Revisado: 10-20-10
A witty, funny book that kept me interested and amused. I had not heard the first Cabal book, but that didn't matter - this story stands on its own. Very nicely read, with a great range of characterizations.
I will certainly get the Necromancer one next.

Robin Sachs is a great narrator
Revisado: 08-25-10
Robin Sachs' narration is the reason to buy this audible book. His characterization is very good and he brings the different characters alive. As this book is the story of a film, Robin Sachs narrates the frequent fight scenes well, lending drama to the reading. I enjoy his voice.
