Read White Plume Mountain and Descent into the Depths of the Earth first. Creative and entertaining characters that you can't help but get attached to - both heroes and villains. Narration was excellent. Highly recommend.

Light, mostly 2 dimensional writing that is good for long car drives, house cleaning or unwinding in the evening. Some stories are better than others, and with 16 main stories plus a few short stories it's good bang for the buck. Not enjoying a story? Skip ahead. It's easy to catch up later. That said, I do like that the story lines are carried over and it's not just a collection of one-off stories. Michael Naramore makes the best of what he is given and is really the highlight of this collection. Overall, 3.5 stars.

Fans of Neil Gaiman (of which I am one) will listen to this and be happy enough just to hear the man tell a story. However, when I distance myself from my fandom, I find that it wasn't particularly satisfying, and it was disappointingly predictable.

A surface examination of his career. Some real gems and he does an excellent job telling a very long story (his career spans decades) in a very short format. If you like Sting, you will most likely enjoy this

I had trepidations after completing the first book, but I thought that once I wrapped my head around the convoluted world building I would be able to simply enjoy the characters. Alas, that was not to be. Plot twists were telegraphed so far in advance there was little drama. There are attempts to convey the wonder of experiencing a new culture, but it rings hollow because the diary style accounts lack depth of emotion and there is too much repetition. I'm listening to the 3rd book because I made it this far and I want a sense of completion, but I'm not sure it's worth it. Steven Pacey's skills are poorly showcased, and his American accent is lacking though he does use more American pronunciations (rather than English) than he did in book 1. If you finished book 1 and you are wondering if it is worth moving on, turn back now...

There's a lot to unpack here but I believe it's worth the listen. I came for Steven Pacey, I finished the book (and am now listening to book 2) because I like the main character, Shoestring. The world is a combination of settings including Roman (Political and Cultural society), the American Old West (Six shooters and wide open plains), Fantasy (Elves, Dwarves and for those who play D&D it has a distinctly Eberron feel), Horror (demons and devils) all mixed together. It's a bit much really, but once I let go of my expectations, I grew accustomed to it if not in love with it. Regarding Steven Pacey, I think he's trying to do an American accent but many of his pronunciations are English and it is off-putting to my American ears. He still conveys a lot of emotion and gives the characters their own dimension, which is why I gave 4 stars. His work on The First Law books is OUTSTANDING and really deserves the highest praise. I recommend it to everyone
