Historia
Was Christopher Columbus's voyage to the Americas in 1492 the most important event in the history of the world? Professor Eakin's provocative answer is a resounding "Yes" - as he presents his case in an intriguing series of 24 lectures. These thoughtful lectures will remind you that when Columbus completed his voyage, he found a people unlike any he had ever known, living in a land unmentioned in any of the great touchstones of Western knowledge. You'll learn how the European world, animated by the great dynamic forces of the day, Christianity and commercial capitalism, reacted to Columbus's discovery.

A superb course with many pointers on the major scholars and frameworks that can be found within this historical field. I now have a huge reading list of titles he mentions throughout (including his own work on Brazil). The author has an excellent grasp of the peoples and experiences right across North, South and Central America. Really, really engaging and interesting.

From the National Book Award–winning author of The Noonday Demon: An Atlas of Depression comes a monumental new work, a decade in the writing, about family. In Far from the Tree, Andrew Solomon tells the stories of parents who not only learn to deal with their exceptional children but also find profound meaning in doing so. Solomon’s startling proposition is that diversity is what unites us all.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
This book is fantastic. Andrew Solomon has such empathy and clarity on the issues addressed in this book, and I worked through this book because of it. A deeply fascinating look at the human condition. However, to Audible, could you please consider inserting chapter titles in very long works like this. It is 31 hrs of listening, with 100 chapters. None of them have titles, so it's basically impossible to dip in and out of this book.

Historia
He is one of the most beloved athletes in history and one of the most gifted men ever to step onto a tennis court - but from early childhood Andre Agassi hated the game. Coaxed to swing a racket while still in the crib, forced to hit hundreds of balls a day while still in grade school, Agassi resented the constant pressure even as he drove himself to become a prodigy, an inner conflict that would define him. Now, in his beautiful, haunting autobiography, Agassi tells the story of a life framed by such conflicts.

Historia
On June 9, 2008, the butchered body of Travis Alexander was found in his Mesa, Arizona, home. The grisly nature of his death made instant headlines: With 29 knife wounds, his throat slit, and a gunshot to the head, Travis was left to die. The prime suspect in the case was Alexander's ex-girlfriend, the attractive and soft-spoken Jodi Arias. Though Arias initially said that she was nowhere near the scene of crime, little about this case was as it seemed, and before long she had been caught lying to police. As the investigation progressed, her lies evolved multiple times before finally resting on an appalling claim: She had killed Travis in self-defense.

A really interesting insight, well researched and well narrated. It gives equal time to events before and after the murder, so good on background and not just about the court case.

Historia
Hollywood was built on beautiful and complicated matinee idols: James Dean and Marlon Brando are classic examples, but in the 1990s, the actor who embodied that archetype was River Phoenix. As the brightly colored 1980s wound down, a new crew of leading men began to appear on movie screens. Hailed for their acting prowess and admired for choosing meaty roles, actors such as Johnny Depp, Nicolas Cage, Keanu Reeves, and Brad Pitt were soon rocketing toward stardom while an unknown Leonardo DiCaprio prepared to make his acting debut. River Phoenix, however, stood in front of the pack.

Where does Last Night at the Viper Room rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I don't agree with some of the negative reviews around this; I thought the context around young Hollywood at the time was interesting and gave context for Phoenix's life, a sense of comparison about where Phoenix may have ended up had he lived. Didn't find the narration irritating. This book is definitely worth a listen.

What could Debbie Reynolds and Dorian Hannaway have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
This book doesn't have a story. It's just a bunch of random stuff about her business dealings, divorces, financial tribulations, debts, etc. I'm not really sure why she wrote this book.

Extremely detailed- really difficult to listen to in one sitting. I felt it was not great for late at night or relaxing times because there's too much detail. Amazing story, once can scarcely believe it's all true!

Historia
In 1983 four self-described 'knuckleheads' burst out of the neo-punk rock scene in LA with their own unique brand of cosmic hard-core mayhem funk. Over 20 years later, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, against all the odds, have become one of the most successful bands in the world. Though the band has gone through many incarnations, Anthony Kiedis, the group's lyricist and dynamic lead singer, has been there for the whole rollercoastar ride.

Interesting Insight
Revisado: 08-01-12
Where does Scar Tissue rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is toward the top of my library in terms of quality. It is an interesting account, it's a very long book that deals in depth with each stage of the band's progression, with a solid delivery by the narrator. I'm not the hugest fan of the band, but I lived through their times and it's a really interesting account of that. I admire the author's candid account, it doesn't seem like he held much back in the writing of this memoir.

Cerebral take on acting and film making
Revisado: 08-01-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I enjoyed this. It wasn't a celebrity bio as I'd normally understand the term, as both authors are cerebral and reflective. Salacious celebrity gossip stuff is very much downplayed in favor of studied reflections on their work, personal philosophies, and family life. Martin Sheen is especially sweet and sentimental in his contributions; it's hard to believe it's the same guy who played in Apocalypse Now!
