Historia
Narcissus and Goldmund is the story of a passionate yet uneasy friendship between two men of opposite character. Narcissus, an ascetic instructor at a cloister school, has devoted himself solely to scholarly and spiritual pursuits. One of his students is the sensual, restless Goldmund, who is immediately drawn to his teacher's fierce intellect and sense of discipline.

Exquisite.

Honest and touching. It is the apollonian/dionysian fleshed out in narrative form. Does justice to the experience of the deepest kinds of friendship.

Not my cup of tea
Revisado: 02-28-18
Zany, creative story with manic, tangential twists and turns. Light, silly tone meant to be funny, at times successfully so. Reminiscent of Monty Python. British slapstick isn't my thing though so I didn't enjoy it much.
Narrator did an excellent job. His expressive enthusiasm fit the book's personality well.
My issue with it is that its empty of any sort of overarching theme or purpose. The characters don't change, there didn't seem to be any underlying threads or motifs to buttress the plot with substance, and frankly I don't see what the point of it was. That said, it was a quick, easy listen and you might as well give it a try since its so revered by seemingly everyone outside of this one tone-deaf dude bashing it on Audible.

The Function of Reason

Historia
Whitehead presented these three lectures at Princeton University in 1929. Although 85 years have passed, his central thesis and his analysis remain remarkably current. The scientific materialism that Whitehead opposed with such vigor continues to dominate in academic circles, and even now those who question that worldview are often accused of being antiscientific. This is especially true in discussions of the nature of the human mind and its relation to the body (particularly the brain).

Historia
When Norm Macdonald, one of the greatest stand-up comics of all time, was approached to write a celebrity memoir, he flatly refused, calling the genre “one step below instruction manuals.” Norm then promptly took a two-year hiatus from stand-up comedy to live on a farm in northern Canada. When he emerged he had under his arm a manuscript, a genre-smashing book about comedy, tragedy, love, loss, war, and redemption. When asked if this was the celebrity memoir, Norm replied, “Call it anything you damn like.”

Ridiculous, long, meandering Norm tales.
