Historia
This reissue of Thomas Sowell’s classic study of decision making, which includes a preface by the author, updates his seminal work in the context of The Vision of the Anointed. Sowell, one of America’s most celebrated public intellectuals, describes in concrete detail how knowledge is shared and disseminated throughout modern society. He warns that society suffers from an ever-widening gap between firsthand knowledge and decision making—a gap that threatens not only our economic and political efficiency but our very freedom.

Part 2 made it worthwhile for me
Revisado: 10-12-24
As a non-economist, part one was a bit difficult to get through. Here he applies economic principles to social processes. Part two where he applied those principles to current trends in economics, law and politics was much more relatable and therefore more interesting for me.

Historia
The company of the Ring is torn asunder. Frodo and Sam continue their journey alone down the great River Anduin - alone, that is, save for the mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go. This continues the classic tale begun in The Fellowship of the Ring, which reaches its awesome climax in The Return of the King.

Historia
In Wealth, Poverty, and Politics, Thomas Sowell, one of the foremost conservative public intellectuals in the country, argues that political and ideological struggles have led to dangerous confusion about income inequality in America. Pundits and politically motivated economists trumpet ambiguous statistics and sensational theories while ignoring the true determinant of income inequality: the production of wealth.

Historia
The Vision of the Anointed is a devastating critique of the mindset behind the failed social policies of the past thirty years. Thomas Sowell sees what has happened not as a series of isolated mistakes, but as a logical consequence of a vision whose defects have led to disasters in education, crime, family disintegration, and other social pathology. In this book, "politically correct" theory is repeatedly confronted with facts-and sharp contradictions between the two are explained in terms of a whole set of self-congratulatory assumptions held by political and intellectual elites.

25 years later and still very relevant
Revisado: 09-10-23
It’s amazing how much this work is still relevant in 2023, 25 years later. If more people read this, the better off we’d all be.

Historia
This explosive new audiobook challenges many of the long-held assumptions about blacks, about Jews, about Germans and Nazis, about slavery, and about education. Plainly written, powerfully reasoned, and backed with a startling array of documented facts, Black Rednecks and White Liberals takes on the trendy intellectuals of our times as well as historic interpreters of American life.

Historia
The culture of “safety” and its intolerance of opposing viewpoints has left many young people anxious and unprepared for adult life. Lukianoff and Haidt offer a comprehensive set of reforms that will strengthen young people and institutions, allowing us all to reap the benefits of diversity, including viewpoint diversity. This is a book for anyone who is confused by what’s happening on college campuses today, or has children, or is concerned about the growing inability of Americans to live and work and cooperate across party lines.

Good attempt to be unbiased
Revisado: 09-24-22
I agreed with most of what the authors had to say and found it very interesting. For the most part they did a good job hiding their political bias but there were some places where it showed through. Firstly, the obvious bias against President Trump and the lack of an attempt to present both sides of the story. The authors apparently did not read the referenced “very fine people speech” or they would have realized he was not speaking about the neo-nazis. The authors used statistics when it suited them- for example when discussing safety-ism but did not cite statistics when mentioning incidents of police abuse. They should have explored the idea that these are isolated incidents and that the media exploit them for ratings. Also, the authors did not address the impact of the biased media on the consciousness of the American mind.

Historia
In 2009, Mark R. Levin galvanized conservatives with his unforgettable manifesto Liberty and Tyranny, by providing a philosophical, historical, and practical framework for halting the liberal assault on Constitution-based values. That book was about standing at the precipice of progressivism’s threat to our freedom, and now, over a decade later, we’re fully over that precipice and paying the price. In American Marxism, Levin explains how the core elements of Marxist ideology are now pervasive in American society and culture.

Quotations hard to follow
Revisado: 08-15-21
The presence of long quotations and the monotone from the reader made some parts hard to follow. I found myself disoriented because often I wasn’t sure if it was the author speaking or quoted material.
