It's not often the second book in a series is better than the first. Thoroughly enjoyed both. I recommend them often. The narrator is so talented and makes the book a lot of fun. Perfect non-stress read. I hope we get to see more of Vera. Maybe in Paris?

I loved The Guncle and was thrilled when the sequel was announced. It did not disappoint. As always, Steven Rowley is a fabulous storyteller/narrator. I've fallen in love with these characters and will revisit them from time to time. I hope Mr Rowley considers a third installment! A movie version of The Guncle was announced, although there have been no updates online about it since 2022. I would go to the theater for The Guncle.

First, I have to admit I've never listened to anything by Maddie Dawson that I didn't love. She has a way with words, a way of looking at life that is perfection to me. Billie was a delight and watching her work through her own pain and grief while she helped others move on from bad breakups was great fun. Ok, maybe the bunny costume was a little silly but the message was spot on. The cast of characters, especially Calvin, rounded out the story nicely. Will listen again.

Zachary and Julia did an amazing job bringing this story to life as some of the best narrators in the biz. I've already listened to this book twice since it was released and I know it will be revisited annually. The story is that good. I can't recommend it enough.

I wanted to love this book but it fell a little flat for me. If you've watched anyone die from cancer then you already know most of the story. Placement of a beloved pet rounds it out. I bet Martha has some amazing tales to tell, but this one wasn't one of them for me. I did enjoy it though and listened until the end.

I thought this book might focus more on the children's grief but it was really Patrick's story about moving beyond the traumatic loss of his boyfriend. Allowing himself to fall deeper in love with the children, he was motivated to move beyond his anger and loss and back to his life.

Not as good as Ove and Anxious People

There is no doubt that Fredrik Backman is a great writer and there were some good moments for Britt-Marie. The story tended to drag and it was hard to love Britt like I loved the characters in A Man Called Ove and Anxious People. And the ending was not satisfying after so many hours invested. That being said, the back story of Britt's childhood was introduced in layers and helped you understand her coping mechanisms (though they were mentioned far too much). The towns response to Britt was difficult to buy. The narrator was ok but some of the characters (I'm thinking of Somebody especially) were over the top and annoying. 3.5 stars

I sometimes think the way we grieve in the US is rather sterile compared to other parts of the world. I appreciated that the main character, Jane, was angry and lashed out so often. She had so much on her plate with two young kids. I enjoyed witnessing her begin to heal and evolve past the initial shock of sudden loss. Her family members were supportive and rounded out a great story. Juliette Fay is a gifted writer and Marguerite Gavin is a wonderful narrator. This is definitely a favorite and will be listened to again and again.

I love that audio books have moved beyond just having someone blandly read a book out loud. The narrators were fantastic and added so much to the experience.
I love learning about what makes people tick - their idiosyncrasies and more importantly how they react and cope with adversity. Mixing this with a glimpse of an afterlife and the influence those who have passed still have on us (I have experienced this with my parents) was the perfect recipe for me. I can't wait for Abby's next book.

I made it through chapter 11 before I skipped to the last few chapters. I never grew to like the Ed's character but maybe would have if I had listened to the middle chapters. Surprising that others have rated it so highly.
