Historia
Though this Word is true evermore, yet men are as unable to understand it when they hear it for the first time as before they have heard it at all. For, though, all things come to pass in accordance with this Word, men seem as if they had no experience of them, when they make trial of words and deeds such as I set forth, dividing each thing according to its nature and showing how it truly is. But other men know not what they are doing when awake, even as they forget what they do in sleep.

A must for a Stoic practitioner
Revisado: 06-24-23
Although not a Stoic since Stoicism was not invented then, the fragments influenced Stoicism’s view on the nature of things; what some call “physics”.
Indeed, mysterious, religious/divine, occult for some, but highly meaningful and symbolic, the fragments do present an understanding of the Cosmos and how things behave and become. So one be in harmony with Nature.

Durant lucidly describes the philosophical systems of such world-famous “monarchs of the mind” as Plato, Aristotle, Francis Bacon, Spinoza, Kant, Voltaire, and Nietzsche. Along with their ideas, he offers their flesh-and-blood biographies, placing their thoughts within their own time and place and elucidating their influence on our modern intellectual heritage. This book is packed with wisdom and wit.

The authors devoted five decades to the study of world history and philosophy, culminating in the masterful 11-volume Story of Civilization. In this compact summation of their work, Will and Ariel Durant share the vital and profound lessons of our collective past. Their perspective, gained after a lifetime of thinking and writing about the history of humankind, is an invaluable resource for us today.

From the mouth of the wise one
Revisado: 01-30-22
It was pleasant to listen to Mr Durant himself. His perspective is worldly and his suggestions quite reasonable for a civil society. Unfortunately, “children” were allowed to influence the path instead of “adults”.
Mr Durant may acknowledge human potential, but he is aware that they are incapable of stability.
Enriching.

Historia
The final and most personal work from Pulitzer Prize - winning author and historian Will Durant - discovered 32 years after his death - is a message of insight for everyone who has sought meaning in life or the council of a wise friend in navigating life's journey. From 1968 to 1978, Will Durant made four public allusions to the existence of Fallen Leaves. One, in 1975, hinted at its contents: "a not very serious book that answers the questions of what I think about government, life, death, and God."

Qualities of a sage
Revisado: 01-03-22
Mr Durant is one of the rare individual presenting human history and life through knowledge, balanced perspective and wisdom. In an era where people loose themselves in technology, popularism, media, medication and ideals, Mr Durant's books has always promoted the human spirit and life - probably 2 concepts describing the very manifestation of our world as a species - wherever they lead us.
According to my appreciation of his work and what small amount of information I know of him, he has the equivalency of a sage through his life and work. His wife merits my praise as well. I am appreciative of my physical book collection and audio-books read by Mr. Gardner.

For the serious history enthusiast
Revisado: 10-16-21
Granted, at over 50hrs of listening time, this audio book is impressive, but the quantity, diversity and scope of the information provides a large window of understanding. In addition, compared to current history books, this one is biased with personal opinions or social issues. Finally, it is a very good back-up after reading the book.

A story about Humans and their existence with the cosmos
Revisado: 10-11-20
Much a do about the human experience as a species and its relationship with the universe.
Mr Sagan’s message seems to be that we remain “nice” humans and stay so as we reasonably explore the universe.
Very good for reflecting on our species and what we should or could do to enhance our experience individually and collectively... and universally.

Historia
A black swan is a highly improbable event with three principal characteristics: It is unpredictable; it carries a massive impact; and, after the fact, we concoct an explanation that makes it appear less random, and more predictable, than it was. The astonishing success of Google was a black swan; so was 9/11. For Nassim Nicholas Taleb, black swans underlie almost everything about our world, from the rise of religions to events in our own personal lives. Elegant, startling, and universal in its applications, The Black Swan will change the way you look at the world.

A Stoic view to risks
Revisado: 08-09-20
Only the last chapter seems to motivate the author’s perspective and mastery in his trade, hence, this book and probably the others. Indeed, there is no accidents nor randomness. Only lack of knowledge, lack of experience, lack of preparations and lack of foresight.
Again, rely on yourself to minimize losses through knowledge of Life and humans. Self-sufficiency reduces fragility and augments robustness.

Historia
The story of philosophy is an epic tale, spanning civilizations and continents. It explores some of the most creative minds in history. But not since the long-popular classic by Bertrand Russell, A History of Western Philosophy, published in 1945, has there been a comprehensive and entertaining single-volume history of this great, intellectual, world-shaping journey.

Well-rounded book of knowledge
Revisado: 06-20-20
To describe the concept of philosophy in time, place and perspective provides an all-encompassing presentation.
It is a very good reference for the student, but provides plenty to the practitioner.
It proves that philosophy is a human process, granted in different intensity or maturity or orientation, but it is the way to answer those “great questions”.

Historia
In I’m Your Emotional Support Animal, Adam Carolla examines how our culture went careening off a cliff. We used to have one that created real warriors who fought world wars. Now it spawns social justice warriors who fight Twitter wars. He takes on those who are traumatized by Trump and “emotional support animal” owners who proclaim their victimhood at every airport. He stands up for the collateral damage of the #MeToo movement and for freedom of speech on “safe space” filled college campuses.

Contemporary Heraclitus
Revisado: 06-17-20
Granted, the choice of words and style of speech represents the incredulity of most people, on all sides of the political spectrum. However, the way Mr Carolla expresses himself is similar to ancient philosopher Heraclitus who wrote something like: its right in front of yours eyes yet is blind to it; sleep walkers.
The book is entertaining, personalized (which makes it better) and interesting. I would say “informative”, but not all would understand what is informative in a rant. Put aside your values and listen... its right in front of you.
