Historia
In sharing his stories, Atlas reveals the philosophy by which he lives. Like Teddy Atlas - inimitable, tough, honest, and wise - this book inspires. It is about so much more than boxing. It is a story of overcoming hardships, of compassion for those in need, of tremendous personal integrity, and of personal and professional triumph.

Amazing!
Revisado: 12-10-19
Haven’t reviewed in a while, but this book was so amazing I had to write something. Teddy Atlas is so admirable, even with his tough exterior, the heart and brain work overtime. Having him narrate makes it so much better. You feel like you’re sitting around and sharing stories. The occasional interviews add a lot — a great way to update the narrative. Thank you Teddy.

Historia
Peter Mark Roget - polymath, eccentric, and synonym aficionado - was a complicated man. He was an eminent scholar who absorbed himself in his work, yet he also possessed an allure that endeared him to his mentors and colleagues - not to mention a host of female admirers. But, most notably, Roget made lists.

Boring
Revisado: 09-11-08
Boring.
Adjective. Arousing no interest or curiosity.
Synonyms: drear, dreary, dry, dull, humdrum, irksome, monotonous, stuffy, tedious, tiresome, uninteresting, weariful, wearisome, weary, blah, colorless, displeasing, drag, dry, flat, humdrum, irksome, mundane, piercing, tedious, tiresome, tiring.
Disappointing. Seems to be the life of a relatively ordinary -- although odd -- individual who created a useful tool. Nothing special here.

Not too good
Revisado: 08-24-08
OK, so if you're looking for a DaVinci Code kind of book, don't let the description fool you, this isn't it. Written well, narrated well, but the story was neither exciting nor interesting. You might want to try something else.

Historia
As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours. Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret.

Very Good
Revisado: 08-03-08
Good book and good narrator. Overall an engaging story. French has done a very good job developing the characters to the point that you actually begin to like and hate them as they make mistakes and and live their lives. Very good listen.

More good stuff
Revisado: 07-22-08
I continue to enjoy these books and their narrators. The story has changed so much from the original Ender's Game, but I enjoyed this one as much -- for very different reasons.

Couldn't Finish
Revisado: 07-20-08
Only the second book ever from Audible that I could not get through. I found the story too drawn out and I found that the narrator, in putting on accents, became too difficult to understand. I really wanted to like it, but 9 hours was just enough!

Historia
Eddie Chapman was a charming criminal, a con man, and a philanderer. He was also one of the most remarkable double agents Britain has ever produced. Inside the traitor was a man of loyalty; inside the villain was a hero. The problem for Chapman, his spymasters, and his lovers was to know where one persona ended and the other began.

Better than the movie
Revisado: 03-15-08
I grabbed this before I saw the movie, and I'm glad I did. The book, as usual, was better (even though the movie was also very good). The book gets a bit rambling at times, but as a whole, it was a very good listen. The narration was good,

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: A masterpiece like none other, Brooks’ powerful performance of Haley’s words has been known to leave listeners in tears. It begins with a birth in an African village in 1750, and ends two centuries later at a funeral in Arkansas. And in that time span, an unforgettable cast of men, women, and children come to life, many of them based on the people from Alex Haley's own family tree.

Why did I wait?
Revisado: 03-15-08
Why did I wait so long to read Roots? I don't remember the mini-series, but this book was terrific. Not only is the story powerful, but I found it very interesting when the characters lives are placed in an historical perspective -- for example, when the characters discuss Washington's presidency or Lincoln's addresses. The narration is excellent. Could have gone another 30 hours without issue!

Historia
It's just a small story really, about, among other things, a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist: books.

Fantastic
Revisado: 03-15-08
The book itself is fantastic. A very different perspective from other books I've read on the same topic. Even though the narrator (the actual story teller written into the book, not the audio book narrator) tells you how the book is going to end, multiple times, you're never prepared for it. The narration is excellent -- voices and accents are perfect.
