Historia
A secret branch of the U.S. government has found pyramids on Callisto, a Jupiter moon. They are etched with ancient hieroglyphs that no one can understand - no one but archaeologist Kaden Jaxx. What's more, the pyramids are giving off energy. Lots of energy. Enough to power half of the United States. But Jaxx discovers his Black Ops bosses are hiding an Earth-shattering truth - an ancient civilization may still be on that moon. And a secret launch to that moon is imminent.

Story and narration was a big dissapointment
Revisado: 10-02-24
I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to books. The plot seemed so impossible that it failed to hold my interest.
Once you have heard good narration it is hard to sit through less than ok narration. Perhaps I may have enjoyed the story more if the narration had been better.

Historia
Working at a dead-end retail job in the middle of nowhere can be hard. The long hours. The helpless customers. The enormous eldritch horror living deep below the building. As the only full-time employee at the 24 hour gas station at the edge of town, Jack has pretty much seen it all. But when he decides to start an online journal documenting the bizarre day-to-day occurrences, he unwittingly attracts the attention of much more than just a few conspiracy theorists.

A great change of pace story
Revisado: 02-07-21
I wasn't sure what to expect but I enjoyed the laid-back main character. The performance was good and kept me entertained. I know this is just a fantasy but some sections seemed too far-fetched for even occasional shoppers at the gas station to ignore. Overall, I enjoyed the story.

Historia
When an experiment to study quantum uncertainty goes spectacularly wrong, physics student Bill Rustad and his friends find that they have accidentally created an inter-dimensional portal. They connect to Outland - an alternate Earth with identical geology, but where humans never evolved. The group races to establish control of the portal before the government, the military, or evildoers can take it away. Then everything changes when the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts in an explosion large enough to destroy civilization and kill half the planet.

Enjoyable listen and entertaining
Revisado: 05-14-20
95% of my listening is in the car on 25+ mile commutes or more, so I'm looking to be entertained with a good story and performance. This delivered on both. Yeah, the student's knowledge exceeds undergraduates but this IS science fiction. It moves at a good clip and the performance keeps you engaged. I'm ready for book 2.

Historia
In the year 2243, the Moon belongs to the dead. The largest graveyard in the solar system, it was the perfect solution to the overcrowding and environmental problems that had plagued mankind for centuries. And the perfect place for Cali Washington to run away from her past. But when a mysterious meteor crashes into one of the Moon’s cemeteries, Cali and her fellow Caretakers find themselves surrounded by a terrifying enemy force that outnumbers them more than a thousand to one. An enemy not hindered by the lack of air or warmth or sustenance. An enemy that is already dead.

Very entertaining and hoping there is a book 2
Revisado: 12-04-19
This was a great story in that the characters were believable and the plot kept me guessing and entertained. There were some elements though that seemed to conflict with the story's basic assumptions of the client's actions without explanations.

Like Agatha Christie, you won't guess ending
Revisado: 07-02-15
Would you listen to All Clear again? Why?
Yes, I loved the audio performance. I enjoy history so this type of audio book is right down my alley.
What was one of the most memorable moments of All Clear?
I can't give it away.. but the closing chapters of the book left me in tears.
Have you listened to any of Katherine Kellgren and Connie Willis (introduction) ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I don't recall
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The resolve and determination of the characters and historians trying to survive the Blitz
Any additional comments?
Connie Willis has me hooked on her books. Her level of historical detail, empathy and ability to give Agatha Christie a run for her money on an ending you don't expect.

An Archaeology epic story
Revisado: 12-12-14
Would you consider the audio edition of Thunderhead to be better than the print version?
I've not read the book but the audio version was very well performed. The author's emotions and style brought the novel to life
What did you like best about this story?
It's details to Archaeology procedures, the southwest and descriptions of the group's day to day activities.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book will fill you with the awe and beauty of the "site" and a tear in your eye as Nora comes to peace about her father

For Oxford student Kivrin, traveling back to the 14th century is more than the culmination of her studies - it's the chance for a wonderful adventure. For Dunworthy, her mentor, it is cause for intense worry about the thousands of things that could go wrong.

One of the books you will want to listen to again
Revisado: 09-23-14
If you could sum up Doomsday Book in three words, what would they be?
Hope within hopelessness
Yet you'll revel in the how those during the Black Death approached it in a human compassionate manor.
What did you like best about this story?
The author's knowledge of medieval life, culture and society turned an otherwise Sci-fi book into a moving human story. The author and performance weaves the lives of Kivirn, Father Roach, Agnus and others in the village together to where you experience their joys, fears and horrors.
Have you listened to any of Jenny Sterlin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I really enjoyed Jenny's performance and firmly believe she made the book come to life. I have not heard her performance before, but hope to again.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I don't want to give anything away from what the listener will experience but I'll say how Kivirn deals with death is as much important as how she deals with life.
Any additional comments?
I will say that at first I was hesitant about this book. It isn't the typical sci-fi book I'm used too. However, I'm very glad I stayed with it. Soon, I couldn't stand not knowing what was going to happen next. It will be one of the few books I'll listen to again. I look forward to listening to other of her books.
