Nice recounting of an old story.

The book was very well presented in the audiobook form. I had read the original book written by James Corbett himself and this author did a nice job retelling that wonderful story. I could’ve done without the first few chapters were the author engages in revisionist views of colonial history and India’s early days under colonial rule.I could’ve also done without the environmentalism and revisionist overview of colonial economic efforts to help India prosper.

Historia
The great Oglala Sioux chief Red Cloud was the only Plains Indian to defeat the United States Army in a war, forcing the American government to sue for peace in a conflict named for him. At the peak of their chief’s powers, the Sioux could claim control of one-fifth of the contiguous United States. But unlike Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse, or Geronimo, the fog of history has left Red Cloud strangely obscured. Now, thanks to painstaking research by two award-winning authors, his incredible story can finally be told.

A comprehensive, interesting, insightful, and entertaining review of the Indian wars of the 1800s and Red Cloud’s part in leading them. Loved it.

Historia
A little over 100 years ago, East Africa was terra incognita to most whites: a land largely unmapped, sparsely settled by Europeans, and teeming with wildlife. It was the hunter-adventurer's paradise, and by the early 20th century, a small, lionhearted clan of explorers and big-game hunters began leading safaris there for money.

Not as good as series to date.
Revisado: 08-24-22
The story seemed overly contrived compared to other outstanding stories in the picket series. The introduction of the character Geronimo seem completely unnecessary and added no value to the storyline. The introduction of antifa and BLM seemed like an obvious grasp at some thing which would make the story seem current and relevant. I have loved the Joe Pickett series but this novel falls well short of some of the better stories previously written. Disappointed.
