There were some great stories in here. Some of them didn't wrap up as well as I would have liked. Felt like I needed to re-listen to fully understand what was just portrayed. Being narrated by Joe Biden, or someone who sounds just like him was weird. None the less I'm glad I bought it.

Fantastic Listen

I've read thousands of pages worth of history books and though there was some welcome overlap, I found the way the author put all the pieces together really cool. The story of a nobody, herding, slave-boy's journey to the most powerful person on the planet was fascinating to say the least. The extent that this man changed the world is really under-appreciated. At least it was for me. Make sure you don't skip the epilog. Great book!

Well worth the time.

I'm pretty well read on this time-period but this book was a great addition as it ties things together much better than say the history of Xyz country. None of the leaders lived in a vacuum. All of them were hyper-aware of what was happening with their enemies and friends, as well as those who were neutral or susceptible to outside forces. Everyone was looking for opportunities to influence one another and this book does a good job of telling that side of the story through the events as they unfolded.

It really helped that I already knew a lot of the players here, but I think you'll get a lot out of this even if you use it as a starting point for the period. Great book!

The material seemed okay; he was clear and concise in his presentation. However, it was hard to get past the narrator. I just pictured the guy holding a bong the whole time. Really monotone and unmemorable in nature.

It would be difficult to overstate Rome's significance to our current societal structure. It's also staggering how closely we're mirroring it's failures. Everyone should know this story.

This book was written for people already familiar with developing in languages like Python and Java. Really high level, and fast overview of what it is, and then goes int developing steps.

If you're an eight grade introvert held up in isolation and getting ready to venture out to your first social interaction you'll probably want to read this book twice.

Glad I got through it

I knew a fair amount of these stories but what I did learn was well worth it. Some of the lengthy descriptions of statues and art was frankly agonizing. I was also surprised at how little was spent on Alexander. However, overall I left with a much better understanding of how the foundations of western culture evolved as well as why the mediterranean looks like it does today. I'm looking forward to book three.

Not a good audio book

Any additional comments?

Some books should not be audio books. This is one of them. I probably should have known better but it takes way too much writing, visiting sites, downloading tools etc. All fine and good but not appropriate for an audio book.

Really Interesting

I had no idea how much of a knowledge gap I had on eastern history. Some of the poetry reading was tough to get through but the information overall was fascinating.
