Historia
Rare-book dealer Ashlyn Greer’s affinity for books extends beyond the intoxicating scent of old paper, ink, and leather. She can feel the echoes of the books’ previous owners—an emotional fingerprint only she can read. When Ashlyn discovers a pair of beautifully bound volumes that appear to have never been published, her gift quickly becomes an obsession. Not only is each inscribed with a startling incrimination, but the authors, Hemi and Belle, tell conflicting sides of a tragic romance.

Revisado: 05-07-24
The story is so beautifully told. The reader is absolutely brought into Belle’s and Hemi’s world without trite expressions or saccharine scenes. The characters are intelligent and believable.

Slow start into a great book
Revisado: 01-16-23
I have to admit that I did not care for the beginning if this book. It was a bit campy, and I was having a hard time connecting. Perhaps it would be different if I had been reading the hard copy vs. listening.
However, once time travel goes back to 1950’s America, the book is impossible to put down. The story is so good, the characters are so well constructed, and the narrator is perfect. For the first time in a long time, I became fully immersed in a really, really good book.
So, stick with it. You’ll love it. Definitely will read this one again!

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

A book I will recommend to many of my friends
Revisado: 06-03-21
I wasn’t really sure about this book - at the beginning I didn’t really like Nora, and I thought it was going to be a really depressing book. I’m so glad I stuck with it. It’s one of those books that holds so many gems that I will want to revisit. It also incorporates interesting philosophical and scientific theories. Do you have suspend belief? In some cases, yes. I suspect people will have differing opinions on exactly what their issues may be. But if you set aside any preconceived ideas, this is a good story delivered with beautiful narration.

Historia
Meet Harold Fry, recently retired. He lives in a small English village with his wife, Maureen, who seems irritated by almost everything he does, even down to how he butters his toast. Little differentiates one day from the next. Then one morning the mail arrives, and within the stack of quotidian minutiae is a letter addressed to Harold in a shaky scrawl from a woman he hasn’t seen or heard from in twenty years. Queenie Hennessy is in hospice and is writing to say goodbye.

Good story, good writing, good performance
Revisado: 04-17-18
I really like the gentle unfolding of the story. It’s not fast paced, or edge of your seat, but it’s a story that builds the characters and the plot line enough to engage the reader. The characters are well developed, and the performance is outstanding. The jungle setting is a refreshing change from recent reads.
The only thing that surprised me was the ending. I was left with so many questions I immediately checked to see if there is a sequel. Great book for a book club because there are so many items for discussion and conjecture.

Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

Sonny Lofthus is a strangely charismatic and complacent young man. Sonny’s been in prison for a dozen years, nearly half his life. The inmates who seek out his uncanny abilities to soothe leave his cell feeling absolved. They don’t know or care that Sonny has a serious heroin habit - or where or how he gets his uninterrupted supply of the drug. Or that he’s serving time for other peoples’ crimes. I really thought I would miss Harry, but the new characters draw you in along with a great plot. As usual there are more twists and turns than Lombard Street - Nesbo always keeps you guessing. He just keeps getting better and better.

Amazing book
Revisado: 12-12-14
What did you love best about The Storyteller?
I love that this is a story in a story in a story. There are so many layers to this book. It just makes you think on so many levels.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes and no. It's not an edge of the seat type of thriller. But I was so captured by the characters and their stories that I definitely had to keep listening.
Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?
Minka is a character I won't soon forget. She is written so well, and the performance really does her justice. .
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book made me want to discuss it with everyone. I have most of my friends listening or reading just so we can do that. Just the questions of right and wrong, coupled with forgiveness for those acts keep me thinking about this story long after I finished it.
Any additional comments?
I think this book should be required reading - especially in ethics classes.

What made the experience of listening to Way Station the most enjoyable?
The rhythm of this story just moves you along - you are gently drawn in and become a believer without any pyrotechnics.
Any additional comments?
This book is the reason I am an Audible member. I don't think I would have found this little gem, even though it's a Hugo award winner. I'll be listening to more of Mr. Simak's work. Thoroughly enjoyable.

What a surprise!
Revisado: 03-23-13
Where does Gone Girl rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
In the mystery category, this book ranks extremely high for plot, writing and narration.
Have you listened to any of Julia Whelan and Kirby Heyborne ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This was a first listern for these narrators - they are both excellent, and make the story come to life.
Any additional comments?
Don't let the beginning fool you - I kept hearing "Ripped from the Headlines" in my head. The image of Scott Peterson accompanying that thought. But just when I had muttered my last "Ho Hum", wow - I got blindsided with a plot I never saw coming. Woo Hoo, what a ride. Stick with through, and you won't be disappointed.
