Historia
All of the Shakespeare plays within the Argo Classics catalogue are performed by the Marlowe Dramatic Society and Professional Players. The Marlowe was founded in 1907 with a mission to focus on effective delivery of verse, respect the integrity of texts and rescue neglected plays by Shakespeare’s contemporaries and the less performed plays of Shakespeare himself. The Marlowe has performed annually at Cambridge Arts Theatre since its opening in 1936 and continues to produce some of the finest actors of their generations.

Unable to hear them speaking words.
Revisado: 08-12-22
I love Shakespeare. I am going to fix this recording.
This rendition is almost impossible to hear with clarity. Some characters sound like they are actually far from a recording mic or device; they are elsewhere in the room. Maybe. It causes an attenuation issue where you can turn it up to hear them, but desperately turn it back down when people closer to the mic start speaking. I usually couldn't tell what they were saying. I checked a couple of areas in the recording which I was familiar, and I can't really make out the words.
It's a lovely idea for a release.

Sounded like it needed to be mixed properly; maybe they needed a pop filter? Serious, major sibilance, like they subtracted any simple bass and turned up the treble. Does not strike me as relaxing. Might be good as an alarm to wake, however.

Peter Purves does a fantastic impersonation of William Hartnell. I liked the story in that it focuses on almost gentle aspects of exploration. The last hour or 2 was hard to get through because - spoilers.

Historia
Martyrs to hypochondria and general seediness, J. and his friends George and Harris decide that a jaunt up the Thames would suit them just fine. But when they set off, they can hardly predict the troubles that lie ahead with tow-ropes, unreliable weather forecasts, and tins of pineapple chunks---not to mention the devastation left in the wake of J.'s small fox-terrier Montmorency.

Just Hilarious
Revisado: 04-09-15
If you could sum up Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog) in three words, what would they be?
Hilarious. Fun. Unforgettable.
What did you like best about this story?
So many of these sweet tales can be related to if one has *ever* gone on a canoe trip or had any minor annoyances in life.
The stories about the people towing is among my favorites. "There's never a dull moment in the boat while girls are towing it."
What about Steven Crossley’s performance did you like?
I really liked his dry manner. :)
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I was listening to this as I was falling asleep one night. I had almost drifted off when I found myself climbing out of the covers because I had been abruptly brought back to reality. The mildness with which the antics are put forth soon had me laughing so hard, I had to take a few moments and get a drink of water. I laughed for about 5 minutes in the other room. Story is hilarious. I wish they'd taught us about Jerome K Jerome in school. :)
Any additional comments?
If you'd like to have a good time, I would urge anyone to read this book or give it a listen. I giggled very hard through most of it because it's so easy to imagine and was extremely easy to relate to, on many levels.
Listening gave me the impression an old friend was telling me about their experiences on the water. - Pure joy and fun.

Historia
In 3001: The Final Odyssey, Arthur C. Clarke brings the greatest and most successful science fiction series of all time to its magnificent, stunningly unforeseen conclusion. As we hurtle toward the new millennium in real time, Clarke brilliantly - daringly - leaps 1,000 years into the future to reveal a truth we are only now capable of comprehending. An epic masterpiece at once dazzlingly imaginative and grounded in scientific actuality, 3001 is a story that only Arthur C. Clarke could tell.

Poor ol' Frank
Revisado: 03-28-13
Where does 3001 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It's really not bad. Scott Brick has become one of my more preferred, American accented narrators. The story itself is amusing to me as I'm a huge fan of 2001, 2010, 2061.
What was one of the most memorable moments of 3001?
Poor ol' Frank gets taken down a peg or 2 - and that's saying something. He's so blown away by the technology available in this new millennium he finds himself in. I really enjoyed hearing Scott Brick read the bits of the book that referred to 2010. I'm pretty geeky about all that, so it was a pleasure to revisit it. He does a great job.
What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
His easy-sounding, laid back manner lends itself to the realm of the 2001 series. (I just couldn't imagine what could be done with the story itself - they FIND FRANK?? lol - I was gladly mistaken. I should have more faith in one of my favorite authors whose stories have truly touched my life.)
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes.
Any additional comments?
I really recommend this novel and audible version.
