Well told story that keeps your attention. Type of book where you lose track of how much ground you have covered.

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: A performance so poignant, we gave Bronson Pinchot (yes, Balki from Perfect Strangers) our inaugural Narrator of the Year award.... In the monsoon season of 1968-69 at a fire support base called Matterhorn, located in the remote mountains of Vietnam, a young and ambitious Marine lieutenant wants to command a company to further his civilian political ambitions. But two people stand in his way.

Can’t fathom what it was like to be there.
Revisado: 11-30-23
The story is well told. Surely it only scratches the surface of what it was like.
The narration is excellent. The characters are well represented, and easy to distinguish. Exceptional job conveying the emotions.

For Megan, keeping her boy safe and happy is what matters. But Woody believes a monstrous evil was behind his father’s death and now threatens him and his mother. And he’s not alone in his thoughts. An ally unknown to him is listening.

Another great story
Revisado: 04-21-20
This is the Koontz that attracted me to reading for entertainment so many years ago. It is a pleasant memory to pick up on the old thread of Watchers without needing the background to enjoy the story. If you enjoy this book and haven't read Watchers, you owe it to yourself to read that one also.
I found the narrator to do a great job. His performance made the story easy to listen to and stay with the plot. This is not always the case when listening to an author, like Koontz, who shifts scenes suddenly. It's easy to pick up when reading print but some narrators have a way of shifting the tone or tenor so you recognize that you are in a different place.
Well done.

Not an easy read for the average person
Revisado: 06-29-17
This book has a great deal of data to impart upon you. Ultimately it's well worth your time. However, you may find it a little dry at times. If you're reading it just for your own knowledge don't get too wrapped up in trying to hold on to each fact. The information builds well and eventually you understand the story line.

Not quite "What Every Body's Saying"
Revisado: 04-13-15
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
It depends. This book is for those that are into studying people and their responses. I believe that it could send the wrong message to some.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I enjoyed the way they took the interviews apart and discussed the actions. It was occationally dry but not without merit.
Could you see Spy the Lie being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No
Any additional comments?
I don't know if it was the narator or the authors but the book seemed a little melodramatic for my taste. Made me think of Don Adams.
The authors provide a number of places where the deception was present. I would like them to have provided an instance(s) where there was no deception.

Entertaining, especially if you grew up in the 80s
Revisado: 11-12-12
I enjoyed the story. I don't expect it to become a classic but the author made you care about the characters and kept the story line moving. It was interesting the way the story referenced the mood and music of the 80s.

almost as good as daemon and freedom
Revisado: 10-19-12
I enjoyed the book but not quite as much as the predecessors. As for the narrator, well it's the same guy. He may be unique but I didn't find it difficult to listen to at all. I thought Daemon and Freedom were wonderful. By comparison, this book is good but did not enthrall me like the others. Worth the credit.

Historia
Shocking and controversial when it was first published in 1939, Steinbeck's Pulitzer prize-winning epic The Grapes of Wrath remains his undisputed masterpiece. Set against the background of Dust Bowl Oklahoma and Californian migrant life, it tells of Tom Joad and his family, who, like thousands of others, are forced to travel west in search of the promised land. Their story is one of false hopes, thwarted desires, and broken dreams, yet out of their suffering Steinbeck created a drama that is intensely human, yet majestic in its scale and moral vision.

There's a reason it's a classic
Revisado: 10-01-12
It is amazing the parallels of today's society. The story is sad but very gritty and oh so real. The harmonica is something that will grow on you.
And yes, the narration is first rate. When I looked up the narrator's biography I was pleasantly surprised that I knew him from other roles.

James A. Garfield may have been the most extraordinary man ever elected president. Born into abject poverty, he rose to become a wunderkind scholar, a Civil War hero, and a renowned and admired reformist congressman. Nominated for president against his will, he engaged in a fierce battle with the corrupt political establishment. But four months after his inauguration, a deranged office seeker tracked Garfield down and shot him in the back. But the shot didn’t kill Garfield. The drama of what happened subsequently is a powerful story of a nation in turmoil.

Good story and charicters. I liked the development of the story and charicters. I doubt it will be a clasic. But it served the purpose of keeping me entertained and interested in the next development.
