Less is more
Revisado: 01-07-25
I've learned so much from Ali's youtube channel that I preordered this book in the moment it was possible. He is such a great thinker and leader in our modern life, that I had very high expectations.
However, all along the book I had the feeling that he is trying to put everything in this book. All his previous knowledge, wisdom, examples, learnings, technics, everything. The entire book feels like jumping from one of his youtube video to another, watching just a few seconds or minutes from each, in an organized order, but without having a flow and without space for reflection or thinking.

Finally, I know how and why change happens
Revisado: 05-17-21
For a long time I've struggled to change social norms in a huge organisation and to make people adopt innovative and proven approaches. I've got even frustrated by my failures. From this book I understand what have I done wrong all the time. I've used the virality, fireworks, shotgun approach, but these are useless for adopting new behaviors. From now on I'm going to focus on fishing net networks, social reinforcement, snowball effect andwide bridges.
Excellent book.

Historia
Intelligence is usually seen as the ability to think and learn, but in a rapidly changing world, there's another set of cognitive skills that might matter more: the ability to rethink and unlearn. In our daily lives, too many of us favor the comfort of conviction over the discomfort of doubt. We listen to opinions that make us feel good, instead of ideas that make us think hard. We see disagreement as a threat to our egos, rather than an opportunity to learn.

Debate is a dance, not a war.
Revisado: 03-18-21
Dancing is two different individuals having together a substantially greater experience of the music and atmosphere than they would have alone. Dancing is being open to the partner, embracing it while adapting to each other. It's not about who has the right movement, it's about having a heightened experience.
Echo chambers are dangerous places, you will never learn anything new. Constantly challenging your beliefs is the way of progress. Enjoying being wrong leads to real learning. Think about something you believe in. What evidence would change your mind?
People don't resist change. People resist being changed. Think about it again.
The authors voice is a bit monotone, robotic, almost each sentence has the same tone, you have to adapt to this in order to focus on the content.

Historia
A powerful, moving memoir - and a practical guide to healing - written by Dr. Edith Eva Eger, an eminent psychologist whose own experiences as a Holocaust survivor help her treat patients and allow them to escape the prisons of their own minds. The Choice weaves Eger's personal story with case studies from her work as a psychologist. Her patients and their stories illustrate different phases of healing and show how people can choose to escape the prisons they construct in their minds and find freedom, regardless of circumstance.

Revisado: 01-29-20
The part summarizing the books are ok, they are clearly understandable, however I think that they are useful for those already familiar with stoicism. The rest is a bunch of ideas thrown together superficially, giving instructions for all aspects of life. Even though most of them are valid, it is still annoying to hear instructions one after another, like you have to sleep 7-8 hours, otherwise you get sick, etc.
One idea I fully disagree which was several times mentioned, is that work is something which you have to do just to make a living.
Overall, this was a waste of time.
BTW: The quality of the sound recording is annoying.

good historical overview
Revisado: 06-16-19
pros: good overview from an expert about the significant wine growing regions, technics and styles of the world.
cons:
-the last 15 years are missing, since it is an older book, and there are relevant changes in styles, trends, rising regions l, etc.
-old fashioned view of the author: e.g. the wine cellar starts with Bordeaux, Burgundy and Port.
conclusion: worth it

Factfulness: The stress-reducing habit of carrying only opinions for which you have strong supporting facts. When asked simple questions about global trends - why the world's population is increasing; how many young women go to school; how many of us live in poverty - we systematically get the answers wrong. So wrong that a chimpanzee choosing answers at random will consistently outguess journalists, Nobel laureates, and investment bankers.
