I was entertained for about 10 mins but when the story finally kicked in there wasn't any to go around. The comedic banter wasn't really that sharp and it feels like some teenage kid just wrote the whole thing. There weren't any depth, and there's basically 2 characters on the book - the sassy individuals and the more serious ones (with some a combination of both). Between the drama and the awful humor, I really don't recommend this book.

The narrator though was excellent and he's the only reason why I gave this book a chance - he is performance was just "awweeesome!" /s

Epic medieval m/m story

I love this story so much just because the protagonist doesn't fall towards the conventional plots. He is quick and cunning but is also likeable. The progression of the love story is intoxicating and the narration is very real. If there's only one criticism I have, it's that I wish the story would have gone longer, or maybe a part 2... but alas, that won't happen.... Nevertheless, this is one of the best m/m fantasy stories out there IMHO.

Feel Good Book

The book has a naivety feel about it. The story itself is quite simple, the characters are simple, there isn't much complexity in there. The actions and thinking of these characters are pretty much one dimensional so you know what you're going to get because they remain like that for the whole book.

But what I did like about Brute is that even though everything is calculated and measured, you get to have moments that tugs on your heart strings. And that's impossible to ignore. The author knows how to pull it out in the right time but one can take self-flagellation only as much. But like I said, there are moments though that makes you smile and appreciate the main characters for who they are.

Btw the narrator was excellent.

I don't know why it works, but it works

Kit is frustrating as hell. JX is charming and adorable as usual. The pair's chemistry seems to only work when there's a dead body involved. But in spite of everything, Josh pulled it again. It's funny and witty. There's an honesty about Josh's work on gay relationships that just pulls you right in, no matter how absurd. I just don't like Kit, he reminds me too much of myself.

I love the world, the romance and the character personalities. One of the few m/m books that is definitely worth buying. I also like the diversity in Mark Westfield's voice characters. I'm officially a fan of this series.

Excellent writing!

I love everything about this but the end. For some reason, Josh Lanyon always cuts the story abruptly. I love his storytelling and will continue to support this guy cause he is just an amazing gay writer. But come on man, please make the ending last for at least a chapter or two.

Sex puns and more sex puns

It's basically all about sex puns (quite a few awful ones) and innuendos with hot and steamy gay sex scenes. It's a story that gets you off and plays with your fantasies which is great if you badly need one on a lonely Friday night. But if you're finding for something with more depth and background, better look elsewhere. For me, I find myself questioning the main characters' believability - not because of the idea of turning a straight man gay or bi. But because of the way they think, talk and act - it comes off as unnatural, manufactured and incredulous. I can't even make sense of the other people in this story. The entire thing seems to be stuck on the premise of 'getting the straight guy' and never really developing anything else beyond that.

Absolutely fantastic!

The problem with most gay erotica on Audible is that most plots are either boring, preachy or downright weird. This collection however is a cut above the rest. The stories are very interesting and extremely hot without going over the top. It also has light and funny moments which I appreciate. The narration is just perfect for this audio and I wish Mr. Frisk would record more hot audios in the future.

This was one of the most erotic, enjoyable and painfully cute stories I have read/listened. There is such a raw authenticity to the plot that most of the gay stories out there can't grasp. Although I was miffed over a couple plot holes, you really can't deny the power of this sweet story.

I wanted to like the book because of the premise of the story but this really turned me off. I thought both of the main characters are both alpha males yet they don't exude masculinity at all. Their conversations are like two teenage girls, in fact most of the characters in the story talk the same way. It was the usual fangirl story - the main characters are perfect, the sex overrated, the villain arch is just lousy and the dialogue is so monotonous. I like the narrator though, his voice is quite soothing.
