Four years after the destruction of the planeport, Earth remains cut off from Heaven. The angels and demons are in disarray, lacking direction and leadership. Someone has to step up and take control, and that person is...Mercury? But when the demoness Tiamat finds out about Mercury's plan to reestablish contact with heaven, all hell breaks loose. Mercury finds himself at the center of a plot to rewrite Earth's history, and the only way to stop it is to travel back in time to prevent the plot from coming to fruition.

Don't let the other reviews scare you away
Revisado: 08-26-21
Don't let the other reviews scare you away. I almost let them. The other reviews mentions the change of narrator in such negative way that I worried it would ruin my enjoyment of the story. I am glad I bought the book in spite of this. The narration is perfectly fine and they even added some light audio drama on top. Which I felt worked well.
The story itself is even greater and manages to wrap this rollercoaster of a book series up in a way that unexpectedly explains everything in a way I didn't know I needed.

Historia
The year is 2039, and Los Angeles is poised between order and chaos. After the Collapse of 2028, a vast section of LA, now known as the Disincorporated Zone, was disowned by the civil authorities and became a de facto third world country within the borders of the city. Navigating the boundaries between DZ and LA proper is a tricky task, and there's no one better suited than eccentric private investigator Erasmus Keane.

Rounds out the setting of the book series
Revisado: 08-01-21
I have mixed feelings about book number two. The performance nagged me through the book. Usually the irritation of change of narrator in a book series fades when you get into the book. Not so much here. The narrator is actually ok, but some of the (main) voices seems to have some kind of audio filter that makes them electronic and somewhat nasal. Adding to this some of the narration had slight pauses giving the effect you often encounter in synthetic text to speech voices.
The story slowly builds up starting with a premise that is unclear and not that engaging but manages to turn this around with a clever plot and mystery that explains quite a few questions about the backstory of DZ and the characters that you didn't knew you had.

Historia
In the 23rd century, humanity has been hunted to the verge of extinction by an alien race. When an exploratory ship accidentally travels back in time to Viking-age Scandinavia, the human race is given a second chance. Pursued by the power-hungry King Harald, the four surviving crew members join a ragtag band of Vikings as they pillage their way across Europe. To save humanity, they must somehow return to the stars. Thus begins a decades-long effort to teach the Vikings to build a craft capable of reaching space - a ship that will come to be known as the Iron Dragon.

Captivating viking scifi
Revisado: 07-18-21
I have read 10+ of Kroese"s novels and this is by far his best. As a Scandinavian with a masters in physics and minor in chemistry this saga resonates with me on a level most stories can't. My only negative comment is the multiple times I cringed when the vikings were described (condescendingly) as bronze age people. The Scandinavian bronze age ended 300 years before. But I chalk it up the Spacemen"s lack of perspective. And it does not in any way detract from the story. Of to read book two.

After interstellar con man Rex Nihilo hijacks a cargo freighter on a whim, he decides that he, and his long-suffering robot sidekick Sasha, have found their calling as space pirates. But when the ship's cargo turns out to be a cryogenically frozen religious fanatic who holds the secret to a vast galactic conspiracy, Rex and Sasha find themselves on the run from real pirates - as well as agents of the oppressive Malarchy, crazy space cultists, and the Ursa Minor mafia. If Rex is going to get out of this jam alive, he might just have to save the galaxy - again.

Give the new narrator a chance
Revisado: 06-23-21
Listening to this book straight after book one will probably jolt you when you hear the new narrator. The first narrator did such a great job setting the tone and doing all the voices. So the switch feels very abrupt as many other reviews mentions. But after a few hours into the story the new take on the voices of recurring characters feels just as good as in the first book, albeit in different way. And I realized the new narrator is just as talented as the first.
The story is also better than the first one and much more original.
If you didn't know this audio book contains an additional short story starring some usual suspects.
Enjoy

Historia
The Battle of Brandsveid brought together every king and nobleman in the land in an epic struggle for the future of the Land of Dis, as the armies of the Six Kingdoms united against the monstrous army of Lord Brand. It was the event Vergil, a knight in the service of the Order of Avaress, had waited for his entire life. Unfortunately, he slept through it.

It didn't engage me
Revisado: 07-03-18
This is so far the weakest book on the series. There are too much debating and not enough action and progress. The book never really made me care for the characters or the outcome of the story.

Historia
Even when finding oneself engaged in interstellar war, good form must be observed. Our story is set thousands of years after the Terran Exodus, where two powerful, planet-dominating families - the elegant House Jakabitus and the less refined Hahn Empire - have reached a critical point in their generations-long war. Master Hennik, the Hahn ruler's only son, has been captured, and the disposition of his internment may represent a last and welcome chance for peace.

A short and informal review
Revisado: 03-06-17
The weakest of Scott Meyer's books. It's hard to get involved and care for the many characters in the first half of the book. Though I am still happy with the time and money I spent on the book. But if you are short of either of those then I suggest that you pick another book.
