Amazing true stories told by the author
Revisado: 11-18-24
I have been a big fan of the author and this is probably the best audiobook I have listened to when the author does the reading.

Historia
Christopher Kerr is a hospice doctor. All of his patients die. Yet, he has cared for thousands of patients who, in the face of death, speak of love and grace. Beyond the physical realities of dying are unseen processes that are remarkably life-affirming. Drawing on interviews with over 1,400 patients and more than a decade of quantified data, Dr. Kerr reveals that pre-death dreams and visions are extraordinary occurrences that humanize the dying process.

Very unique coverage of the end of life

While the author as reader brings honesty and insights, probably the only reason it did not get 5 stars for all. Categories. Thank you to the author and participants and family members that contributed to this.

Historia
The book draws its inspiration from stoicism, the ancient Greek philosophy of enduring pain or adversity with perseverance and resilience. Stoics focus on the things they can control, let go of everything else, and turn every new obstacle into an opportunity to get better, stronger, tougher. As Marcus Aurelius put it nearly 2000 years ago: “The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.”

I didn't realize I am a stoic
Revisado: 03-04-24
As I am older in life, the wisdom discussed over many millennium in this book rings very true to me. I am glad I am on this path and have been unafraid to confront obstacles and grow along the way.

Historia
Talking about death and dying is considered taboo in polite company, and even in the medical field. Our ideas about dying are confusing at best: Will our memories flash before our eyes? Regrets consume our thoughts? Does a bright light appear at the end of a tunnel? For most people, it will be a slower process, one eased with preparedness, good humor, and a bit of faith. At the forefront of changing attitudes around palliative care is hospice nurse Hadley Vlahos, who shows that end-of-life care can teach us just as much about how to live as it does about how we die.

great to hear it directly from the authir
Revisado: 11-12-23
While not a professional narrator, it is a special experience to hear her stories and personal growth in her own words and voice. True emotions are conveyed and will move you, another reason why I listened as an audiobook. While I am not a medical professioal, I personally have witnessed people experiencing visitations, in one case the day before an unexpected death. Having helped my mother and mother in law in their last moments in-between, everything in the book is consistent with my experiences and death is not to be feared, more the reason to make the most of your life for others

Superstar comedian and Hollywood box-office star Kevin Hart turns his immense talent to the written word by writing some words. Some of those words include: the, a, for, above, and even even. Put them together and you have the funniest, most heartfelt, and most inspirational memoir on survival, success, and the importance of believing in yourself since Old Yeller.

surprising and enjoyable listen
Revisado: 03-24-23
I had very limited knowledge of Kevin Hart before listening to this. I think I had only seen him with Conan and ice cube ona short skit. his delivery comes across as very honest and his life and upbringing very hard but his ability to adapt to such is amazing. However his own acknowledged shortcomings revealed his human side. As a successful, self made entrepreneur myself, his attitude towards persistence and other life lessons ring very true in my own experiences.

It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

great to hear it in his own voice
Revisado: 01-26-23
An unsparing (pun intended) look at himself, his family and their relationships with the British tabloids. Makes one glad for our own anonymity and the ability to serve for good and not live in a dangerous lily cage. Glad for him and his wife to leave and as an American, still wonder why there is a commonwealth based on British colonialism or why the new generation of Britons need "royalty" run by deceitful, lying advisors

For generations, everything has been getting faster, better, and cheaper. Finally, we reached the point that almost anything you could ever want could be sent to your home within days - even hours - of when you decided you wanted it. America made that happen, but now America has lost interest in keeping it going.

very unique insights
Revisado: 10-08-22
good to hear the actual author in the audiobook. it brought me completely new insights to both the young and old in China and I will never think about China as the news feeds and press depict. that said this was done pre-COVID and as of my review China is still pursuing a zero COVID strategy that must infuriate young Chinese and make them feel helpless and there personal dreams of freedom (if you listen to the book has a different meaning than western freedom). Also good insights on Xi as the new emperor replacing his ministers as an age old story.

Historia
Bryan Cranston landed his first role at seven, when his father, a struggling actor and director, cast him in a United Way commercial. Soon Bryan was haunting the local movie theater, memorizing and reenacting favorite scenes with his older brother. Acting was clearly the boy's destiny - until one day his father disappeared. Suddenly destiny took a backseat to survival. Seeking something more stable, perhaps subconsciously trying to distance himself from his absent father, Cranston decided on a career in law enforcement.

Bryan reading his life story until his one man play was totally absorbing. I thank him for sharing his pains and personal growth and I couldn't imagine just reading the book instead of listening to him tell it.
