I don't usually read books of this type. I'm more the Sword and Sorcery type of fantasy. Though recently I started branching out to the Steam Punk genre. I stumbled accross this and as I really didn't have any prospects for my next read I decided to give it a shot. I am so happy that I did. The author has a very good grasp of mystery and humor. He gives enough of an introduction to the characters to let you know who and what they are, without revealing too much of what drives them. As the story progresses you start see the driving force behind each character and a little of the understanding of what brought them to this point. As you continue questions start to pop up in your mind that you weren't expecting. By the end of the story, I had enough answers to satisfy my curiousity on most things, and enough questions remaining to make me dive into the next book with quite a bit more enthusiasm then I had when starting this one. The book ended and Audible started with the "Here's a preview of something else you might like" when I grabbed my phone and was like "Oh, no!! I have definetly got to find out what happens next. Where's the next one?" Now I am happily onto Year 2.

I wish to thank Drew Hayes for such an enthralling storyline.

I was intrigued at first. A story about a Chef, and an Orc at that? Sounds different, but how good can it be. I mean he's an Orc, and he's a chef. How can you make an interesting story out of that. Well, Actus did. I was devouring the story from the very begining. I drive around town all day, so I listen to books. I found that wasn't enough in this case. Oh, at first sure, 5 to 8 hours spent out, about half of that spent in the car driving from one client to the next. Okay, I got a good helping of the story. Then, work slowed down a bit, and I found I was only out and about for maybe 3 or 4 hours. So, at best an hour and a half driving, maybe 2. I found I was dieing to hear the next piece of the story. So, I started listening to it in the house as well. The next thing I knew, I was fiished, and wanting more.

I would definitely recomend this, to anyone that loves a really good tale. It's a full 5 course meal and then some.

I found this to be a very enjoyable listen. Cale Plamann has created some very memorable characters. The character development is well thought out and seems to flow seemlessly from start to finish. The story arc is complete, easy to understand, and progresses well from the opening statement to closing. The involvement of time is well done and logical. In many stories dealing with time, the story progression can become murky and hard to follow. This was well structured and fell into place quite well.

I definitely recommend this for anyone with a love of LitRPG and/or stories involving paradox and time travel.

I was greatly entertained by this series. I loved it. I was a little hesitant at first as it isn't my normal style. However, that being said, it didn't take long at all to catch my attention and keep it bound. From start to finish I found this a very enjoyable read. I was able to relate to the characters. There were some sterio types, but it all works. I did get thrown a little at the begining of each book change. The first book wasn't too bad as I had no idea what to expect when I started. Then when the second book began, it hit me as, "Wait a minute. What happened? What did I miss?" Then I remembered, oh yeah, the author teases you at first by relating something further in the timeline, then jumping back. It was a little disturbing at first, but then it all worked out, and I was again thoroughly hooked in the storyline. I definitely recomend these books. In fact I have already recomended them to my son-in-law.

I read the first book and was caught. I love the characters and the conflict the main character has with his gift. I couldn't wait to get my hands on the second book. It was all I had hoped for. The excitement continues to build. The way Alex learns to work around the conflict he has with the mark is amazing. The author has really put some thought into how this works. You can also see the character growth develop among the various characters in the story. I find that at times I am asking myself, "Yeah, what about her, how is she dealing with it...", or "Oh, here it comes, What is he gonna do now...." I can't say enough about these books. I can't wait for the third one.

I loved this book. I am a computer consultant and webdesigner. I started listening to this book while driving between job sites. I often found myself sitting in the car at my next site waiting for a good stopping point. I found the character interaction superb. I enjoyd the fact that I was seeing the characters' development along with the Chosen One. As a game player and a web designer, I felt a strong connection with the Chosen One and enjoyed the interaction with the companion.

All in all, it was a very funny and captivating read. I highly recomend this for anyone who has enjoyed Adventure-RPG-Fantasy video games.

I have read a lot of Fantasy and Science Fiction. I recently started listening to the LitRPG genre. I find them unique and refreshing. This one was no exception. From the opening page you are thrown into the conflict. At first I was "ALRIGHT!", but then it was okay this is different. Then for the next half hour I found myself a little detached as I listened. Then the world gets turned upside down, and I'm thinking "Holy crap what does this guy have to go through." Then the story changes again and I was hooked. The more I listened, the more I got pulled into the storyline. I started giving my family a summary updates of where I was so far in the book. Recomending that they read it as well.

Now that I am finished with it, I can't wait to see where the author takes the storyline from here. I highly recomend this book.

I read and reviewed the first book and loved it. The same with the second book. However, I was somewhat disappointed with this one, being the third in the series. The first one knocked my socks off. The second held on where the first one left off. This one, however, doesn't hold up to the first two. There is an awkward scene near the beginning that, I assume, is supposed to reveal how the protagonist is losing control and falling under the influence of the antagonist, and I suppose it does do that. I wasn’t happy with the authors choice of victims. I mean, yes, it did give us a definite sense of loss of control, however, I lost some of my compassion for the antagonist at that point. I think a different backdrop, or just a simple disruption of serenity would have been just as effective.

However, I did like the twisted sense of irony in the storyline of being pitted against oneself. That provided a different level of anticipation that was fulfilled by the author. I wish to applaud him for that particular genius. That made this an enjoyable read.

Though, then we come to the end. I was again disappointed. It seemed as though it reached a point where, “Okay, the action is over, the bad guy dealt with, the aftermath is boring, let’s just wrap it up here.” I felt the end was a bit lacking. Not to mention, that I felt, the antagonist’s performance at the end was out of character. I just would not have expected a man with the even-tempered bravado he displayed throughout the rest of the storyline to react the way he did in the end. It just felt off.

Over-all I am pleased with the tale, I would have preferred more in the final installment, but I am pleased to have read the trilogy. Definitely entertaining, and definitely not a waste of time.

I had just finished the first book, One in the gut, and I thought it was unique in it's storyline, point of view, and content. You start the first book with, "What? I'm seeing the story from the point of view of the bad guy?" However, you soon find out that the bad guy, really isn't the bad guy. Then I started this one. Here Siege hits me again. This one was even more unique than the first one. I'm not even sure what to call the point of view except, The Ghost in the Machine or maybe Lawnmower Man. It grabbed me again right from the start, and it didn't let go until the end. Even then it held on tight. I can't wait to read the third one. If the first two are any indication it has to be phenomenal.

Mathew Siege only gets better with each new book. Some writers will hit you with the first one and your like, "Alright, give me more," and then the second one comes out and your like, "That's it? What happened to the intensity? the fire? Oh, well, let's find something else to read" Not this time. Siege just builds it up more, then at the end you're like, "What? Oh, my god, what's next?"

I was a bit surprised at first. I started this not having read anything about the book. A zombie game, where the survivors and the zombies are both played by players. Very intriguing thought. Then not only that, but the point of view of the story is from a zombie player point of view. Amazing. I had just finished reading Ready Player One (again), and Ready Player Two, then to jump into this, I was stoked. I found the reading very enjoyable. I was hooked from beginning to end. I highly recommend this book for anyone into game based or computer based immersive storylines.
