So disappointing! What started with a bad ass publicly breaking up with her girlfriend and great sexual tension between characters, turned into a lousy abusive ex drama where the heroine lost any guts she had and the two main characters had no interaction. Plus, the whole "we can't even kiss or my sister will fire you" plotline is just ridiculous because she's not even an employee, she's a consultant 🙄

Unrealistic and stupid plot twist

What an absolutely terrible plot twist. So completely unrealistic and infuriating, it completely ruined the story. Not to mention - your daughter is missing under suspicious circumstances and you don't bother to mention the GIANT secret you've been keeping about her? Talk about parents of the year.

Stupid Ending

Stupid unrealistic ending, and I have 0% respect for a woman waiting for a man who manipulates and ignores her for like 2 years. It's pathetic, not romantic.

Not into forced marriage/pregnancy

There's nothing worse than when a book you're actually enjoying turns to trash. It was great until he secretly arranged a marriage ceremony and married her without her knowledge, said he would never let her go home, and then she gets pregnant even though she was super duper clear she never wanted another kid. And after being upset for like 30 seconds she apologizes for being emotional and is suddenly ok with everything! WTF.

So tired of men with no personality

This was just awful. He was an absolute POS towards her from the moment they met, made it perfectly clear he was kicking her out of her home, but we're supposed to feel bad about her trying to trick him because he has PTSD? Nuh uh. I'm SO tired of reading stories where women are held responsible for men treating them poorly.

Good story, bad pronunciation

Publishers need to put more effort into ensuring accuracy in their audiobooks, because every time the narrator pronounced the ship name Boadicea as "bow-duh-see-ah" I wanted to throw my non-existent book against a wall. Which was often. If you're going to use a popular historic name the least you can do is ensure your narrator knows the correct pronunciation.

Inaccurate Summary

The story itself is decent, but I find the plot summary to be inaccurate and misleading, which was frustrating because I kept anticipating a certain series of events that didn't actually occur that way.

Women deserve to read about better relationships than this.

I stopped listening at the point where I realized the plot relies on him suggesting that she won't be able to get married again because she's old and it's selfish to take from her brother's inheritance for a dowry, and she believes him. Not to mention that there was like one meaningful interaction between the couple before they got hot and heavy and I think that's just lazy writing. Didn't even mention how her husband died.

Disappointing

Interesting setting but shaky and shallow plotline. The romance arc was very disappointing with no relationship development, and the love confession was so anticlimactic and boring I almost DNF. Also I can't stand when there's a "magic solution" that comes out of nowhere, it feels lazy. The best part was the different characters in the side group, but it felt like the romance was secondary just so she could write spicy scenes. Not the best work from Ruby Dixon, I expected more from this one.

Unlikeable characters, lazy writing

Addy is one of the most gullible, annoying female main characters I've ever had to read and Thad is such a jerk that everything he does just creeps me out. I didn't find him to be very likeable in the first book and assumed we would see his redeeming qualities here, but no. The forced haircut scene legit made me mad. I get this is fiction but the entire "kidnapping" scenario would be objectively terrifying, his actions do nothing to ease the situation, her only reassurance is her friend who is apparently a major criminal, and .. suddenly she's sexually attracted to him? I'm sorry but no, it just doesn't do it for me.

Also, it's mentioned once that she has a kid but she's apparently not concerned at all about not returning to them??
