Enjoyed characters and familiar plot
Revisado: 11-23-23
Characters, plot and believability similar to Person of Interest series but not as tedious. Severe vigilante actions justified using similar concept as True Lies- "but they were all bad...".

Historia
Martin Luther King Jr., was a powerful and eloquent champion of the poor and oppressed in the US, and at the height of his fame in the mid-'60s seemed to offer the real possibility of a new and radical beginning for liberal politics in the USA. However, in 1968, he was assassinated; the movement for social and economic change has never recovered. The conviction of James Earl Ray for his murder has never looked even remotely safe, and when William Pepper began to investigate the case it was the start of a 25-year campaign for justice.

Credible refuting of official spin on MLK murder
Revisado: 06-07-22
Author does a thorough job of correcting lies told us about MLK murder. As one seeking the truth about Dr. King's tragic death in 1968, the evidence led him to ultimately defend the man falsely accused of shooting him. Evidence that should have been embraced by the national media and pursued by those responsible for prosecution of crimes was ignored and blocked at every turn. Complicity of the government at multiple levels was proven legally in a court of law, but summarily dismissed and barely reported in the mainstream media, which has not functioned independently from government dictates for over half a century.
My only criticisms of this were the author's equally long philosophical tirades and political bloviating, which seemed mostly one-sided, placing maximum blame at the party level, when his own evidence supported powers operating above the somewhat academic details of which was in office. He proved his case, and clearly conveyed the many tragedies resulting from the whole operation, from the injustices done to the alleged lone gunman, to the continued mistreatment of the King family, to the profound loss to America of one if our greatest men, who not only spoke truth and justice for all, but walked among them at great personal cost to prove that stand and to lead others towards the truth and needed change.

Historia
The dystopian future that George Orwell predicted for 1984 has finally arrived, 100 years late and 10 times as brutal. To save all that he loves, Orwell will have to travel between his future self - Erik Blair, Orwell’s descendant and unwitting heir to his legacy - and the past. As for Erik Blair, his life plan isn’t overly complicated: Avoid trouble. Avoid pain. And get from one day to the next without attracting the “wrong” kind of attention, which really equates to any kind of attention when the government and its robotic thugs are involved.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 02-27-22
Though it contained interesting historical data and important current and future political and technological details, it was more of a disappointing futuristic horror story filled with gore and fantasies, and those parts I didn't expect or enjoy.

Historia
In Battlefield America: The War on the American People, the follow-up to his award-winning book A Government of Wolves: The Emerging American Police State, constitutional attorney John W. Whitehead paints a terrifying portrait of a nation at war with itself and which is on the verge of undermining the basic freedoms guaranteed to the citizenry in the Constitution. Indeed, police have been transformed into extensions of the military, towns and cities have become battlefields.

Excellent story and reader
Revisado: 06-18-21
Steven James is one of my favorite authors. I have read/listened to the entire Patrick Bowers series, The Pawn through Checkmate, and hoped there would be more. While this parallel book was set at a time early in that series, the story was so well told and the new materials so well integrated with the other books that I was still on the edge of my seat, especially the second half of the book. I so enjoy the main characters and their interactions with each other and the familiar voices used by Richard Ferrone that make them feel like family or friends. I also appreciate the presentation of the spiritual struggles of the main characters and their honesty with the hard questions of life and yet their growing recognition of God's love and grace and our need of him.
