Historia
Allie Kirkland has never been one to take wild risks. But when she's offered a costuming assistant's job on a docudrama in the hills near Moses Lake, she jumps at the chance. She's always dreamed of following in her director-father's footsteps, and the reenactment of the legendary frontier settlement of Wildwood is a first step. The family expectations will have to wait. But in 1861, the real Wildwood held dangerous realities. Town founder Harland Delevan held helpless residents, including young Irish schoolteacher Bonnie Rose, in an iron grip.

Intriguing story in two time periods
Revisado: 02-26-25
Lisa Wingate has a great way with description and character development. She also knows how to build suspense! Got to a point I didn’t want to stop listening! Not really much about faith… but great story including interesting insider info on pioneer America, slaves life, and the current world of actors in film. Loved it… and the love stories!

The innocence and the struggle
Revisado: 12-26-24
Why did Adam and Eve make that fatal choice in the garden? How did they survive alone? What was populating the Earth and living hundreds of years like? This story starts with innocence and ignorance and takes U.S. on the Journey of learning good and evil with Adam and Eve! Really quite intriguing! I was thrilled watching them learn to create what was needed to survive and grow their families and generations. The possible pain, conflict and interpersonal struggles between Adam and Eve, their children and those after them.., it’s written in a way to cause us to ponder what it would have been like with no example at all… best example of this was when Eve bore her first child… no one had ever given birth before, no mother or midwife to help!!!
Very thought-provoking.

Heart-breaking yet inspiring
Revisado: 12-26-24
The story of Noah‘s Ark is one known by children everywhere, even those grown without any significant adult faith. It is like a wonderous fairytale… but the reality of how depraved the world had become to prompt God to destroy humanity is very heavy! And the description of the watchers and Nephilim is horrific and fascinating, too. But while the promise of the rainbow is a great comfort- the sun yet carried with the children of Noah doesn’t bode well for the future of humanity! That is the most heartbreaking of all. There is something elementary in the way the story is told that is not quite as slick as I might have liked- can’t quite but my fingier on it… maybe. Written for a younger audience, (I am 60). But over all, the story urged me to make better choices in my own life and wonder at the miracles of Gods greater plans!

Fresh light on familiar story
Revisado: 12-26-24
I really enjoyed this new illumination of Martha’s story. I realize we don’t know too much about Martha from scripture, leaving the author much room to imagine and extrapolate; but I have always related to this faithful, hardworking woman and was thrilled to theorize the motivations behind her action and get a deeper view of her character and possible life. The rich relationships between Martha and Her siblings, surrounding characters and Jesus himself were intriguing, emotionally tugging and in the end encouraging and faith-building. Wonderful book, hard to put down. Excellent reader, too!

In the tumultuous world of ancient Israel, Ahinoam—a dagger-wielding Kenite woman—flees her family farm with her unconventional father to join the ragtag band of misfits led by the shepherd-turned-warrior David ben Jesse. As King Saul's treasonous accusations echo through the land, Ahinoam's conviction that David's anointing makes him Yahweh's chosen king propels her on a perilous journey to Moab and back into Judah's unforgiving wilderness, only to encounter more hardship and betrayal.

Loved the heroine!
Revisado: 10-07-24
Mesu always writes deep believable characters and Nomi is no exception! She is warrior, yet 100% relatable with her insecurities and faith struggles. I love also how the story of her relationship with king David brought out so clearly the challenges of living on the run from king Saul. The side characters were also interesting… the story moved along- always referencing parts we know from the scripture… David cutting off a corner of Saul’s robe… his baggage with Michal and more. I look forward to the rest of the series.

Meaningful story of personal growth after betrayal
Revisado: 06-09-24
I was touched by the rich way Austin brought us through the struggles of a woman betrayed… how Satan can lie to us and God can seem distant. She did a great job of helping us feel the inner dialogue that went on in the hearts of the mother and the daughter- and the sons .
Jenn‘s transformation was real and deep both in her healing and her faith. -And it was interesting to learn a bit about the mortuary business.
I did feel that the story moved a bit slowly though… and the title and book cover were also rather uninteresting.

I love how Camden can sin a tail of love and faith yet so filled with interesting details from industries and times I would normally know nothing about!- in this case the beginnings of the cultured pearl industry, an undercover agent in Japan and an navy nurse in the early 20th century!
Great read!

Very moving read
Revisado: 04-12-24
I just finished listening to/ reading the audio book: “ A Million Little Choices” by Tamera Alexander. It is about a women who lost a child and later her husband was unfaithful… in the middle she gets entwined with the history of a slave and her mistress in their work with the Underground Railroad during the Civil War and how this all led her back to Jesus and eventually healing in her marriage.
This deep stuff- it handled betrayal, struggles with faith in God and trust in her husband, complications with grown children, grief, slavery, gratefulness, temptation… and some intriguing mystery and history in a real and compassionate way. Not simplistic or trite at all.
I was very moved by the story.
