Good debut story

This story is a well-done debut with a good premise. It breaks the tired premise of "super gamer sucked into a video game and gets OP class" in a really interesting way, and even addresses how much the "I wish I were in a game" kind of daydream might play out in reality. I look forward to more!

Even for the standard neckbeard LitRPG fanfic, this is weak nonsense. I rarely have to stop listening, but The Land had me ready to quit within the first hour. I finally quit about halfway through the second hour. Before you tell me that I should've just waited, that I needed to invest the time, no I didn't. This was a waste from moment one, and I regret only that I failed to return it in time to get my credit back. The only positive point is the narrator.

Fun story, distracting writing

I really enjoy the story here, and will probably pick up the sequel, but good GOD the author needs to stop using so many adverbs. It seems as though every action within is undertaken "something-ially." Tom Swifties are fun and all, but they really distract from the tale, and thereby my enjoyment OF the tale.

The story may not be groundbreaking science fiction, but that doesn't mean it's not a great ride. The performance is excellent. Bray has a wide array of voices that bring the characters to life, and Alanson's pace is masterful. It's a good, long listen that is perfect for long periods of boring labor. All hail Skippy the Magnificent! I can't wait for book three.

The Essence of Male Adolescence

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 03-05-09

This ably narrated book captures the highs and lows, the fantasies (of perception and imagination), and the mindset of the male adolescent. No matter its temporal or socioeconomic setting, the novel will strike a chord with any man over 21 and any woman with brothers or sons in that difficult age.

As far as vampire stories go, this one isn't very good. For chick porn, I'm sure it's excellent. The story is driven by predictable formulaic plot elements, and offers nothing new to the genre. The most unusual aspect of the story, from my standpoint, is that it was one of the only ones I've ever encountered that was far more interesting at the beginning than at the end - in fact, it's the first I've quit listening to when within 1.5 hours of the end.
