Historia
“Homecoming” takes us back to Ford County, the fictional setting of many of John Grisham’s unforgettable stories. Jake Brigance is back, but he’s not in the courtroom. He’s called upon to help an old friend, Mack Stafford, a former lawyer in Clanton, who three years earlier became a local legend when he stole money from his clients, divorced his wife, filed for bankruptcy, and left his family in the middle of the night, never to be heard from again—until now. Now Mack is back, and he’s leaning on his old pals, Jake and Harry Rex, to help him return. His homecoming does not go as planned.

Weak and Below Grisham Standards
Revisado: 06-07-22
Maybe we expect too much. I know this is a group of short stories or novellas, not a novel. Three short stories that could have been written by dozens of authors. I've read or listened to everything he has written and this is definitely below average for Grisham. Sometimes I think that he comes out with too much stuff and it's unrealistic to expect everything he writes to be a home run. However, he's built that expectation and when it isn't that good, we are disappointed. Anyway, that's what I think. I hope the next book is another Grisham winner.

Jake Brigance finds himself embroiled in a deeply divisive trial when the court appoints him attorney for Drew Gamble, a timid sixteen-year-old boy accused of murdering a local deputy. Many in Clanton want a swift trial and the death penalty, but Brigance digs in and discovers that there is more to the story than meets the eye. Jake’s fierce commitment to saving Drew from the gas chamber puts his career, his financial security, and the safety of his family on the line.

Grisham Is Back
Revisado: 11-06-20
After a couple of what I considered mediocre efforts, Grisham is back with what got you hooked on his writing. This rivals The Firm and a Time to Kill.

Historia
Alan Dershowitz has been called “one of the most prominent and consistent defenders of civil liberties in America” by Politico. Yet he has come under partisan fire for applying those same principles to Donald Trump during the course of his many appearances in national media outlets as an expert resource on civil and constitutional law. The Case Against Impeaching Trump seeks to reorient the debate over impeachment to the same standard that Dershowitz has continued to uphold for decades: the law of the United States of America, as established by the Constitution.

Very Much Needed
Revisado: 07-26-18
A legal opinion from arguably one the greatest constitutional lawyers of our time about what is going with the continuous attacks on President Trump. Point by point, he takes apart the baseless attempts to find that the President has violated some law. We may not need a legal scholar to see what is going on, but when it comes from him, it is very impressive.

Historia
From Derek Hunter - one of the most entertaining political writers today - comes an insightful, alarming look at how progressives have took over academia, pop culture, and journalism in order to declare everything liberal great, and everything great, liberal. Progressives love to attack conservatives as anti-science, wallowing in fake news, and culturally backwards. But who are the real denialists here? There are three institutions in American life run by gatekeepers that have stopped letting in anyone who questions their liberal script: academia, journalism, and pop culture.

Good Read for our Times.
Revisado: 07-26-18
A very good attack on PC and the bias in media reporting of everything. It is helpful in showing just how ridiculous things being reported as news have become. The need to fill an agenda and the rush to get something out there first has replaced investigative reporting. It also points out that there are no consequences for frivolous reporting. Well researched. Cites numerous examples and good narration. There are times when he becomes somewhat repetitive but overall the book keeps your attention. He also writes about how celebrities and the media work together to spin their leftist ideas and no one except those already on board care what they have to say.

Conrad Black, bestselling author of Franklin Delano Roosevelt: Champion of Freedom and Richard M. Nixon: A Life in Full, turns his attention to his "friend" President Donald J. Trump and provides the most intriguing and significant analysis yet of Trump's political rise. Ambitious in intellectual scope, contrarian in many of its opinions, and admirably concise, this is surely set to be one of the most provocative political books you are likely to listen to this year.

Better than Most
Revisado: 06-27-18
There have been far too many Trump Books for the little bit of time he has been in politics. Most are written to pander to an audience of people who can't get over the fact that he got elected. I can't imagine what these people will do if he gets re-elected. This book is somewhat flattering of the President, but compared to most of the stuff that is out there, you would have to consider it balanced.

Renée Ballard works the night shift in Hollywood, beginning many investigations but finishing none, as each morning she turns her cases over to day shift detectives. A once up-and-coming detective, she's been given this beat as punishment after filing a sexual harassment complaint against a supervisor. But one night she catches two cases she doesn't want to part with: the brutal beating of a prostitute left for dead in a parking lot and the killing of a young woman in a nightclub shooting. Ballard is determined not to give up at dawn.

It's No Bosch
Revisado: 07-24-17
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
This book was like listening to a dictionary of police lingo and abbreviations. Some of that is ok, but after a while it becomes distracting. When you are used to Bosch, this character was hard to identify with.
Would you recommend The Late Show to your friends? Why or why not?
Probably not. Having gotten used to Harry Bosch, this book was a bit of a let down. When you have a winner, keep riding it.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
Unlike a lot of other readers, I didn't really have any problem with the narration.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
It might be a better movie than a book.
Any additional comments?
What I would like to see is another Mickey Haller book. Go that way if you want to change characters from HB.

Disappointing
Revisado: 06-10-17
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
From someone who has read everything he has written, this book would be toward the end of the line. Usually, I can't put a Grisham book down. I had to work to keep my interest in this one.
Would you ever listen to anything by John Grisham again?
Of course. Too much good stuff to let one book stop me from reading Grisham.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
The narration was adequate.
Did Camino Island inspire you to do anything?
No.
Any additional comments?
I saw another person made a comment that Grisham is back. I thought the opposite, that he may have lost his edge or interest in writing. Maybe it was the story, but overall I thought the book was short of Grisham standards.

A Little Disappointing
Revisado: 06-01-16
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
It's a story of a man dying of a terrible disease. It is a great book about how well a man handled a horrible disease. Most of us would never be able to do what he did. Maybe my expectations were too high. I had heard so much about the book, I felt a little let down after listening to it. As a couple of people stated, it mostly is about the author talking. I kept waiting for the wisdom of Morrie and it just didn't seem to be there.
Would you be willing to try another book from Mitch Albom? Why or why not?
Maybe
What about Mitch Albom’s performance did you like?
He did a good job of narrating it
Do you think Tuesdays with Morrie needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No

Historia
On the eve of the Civil War, one soldier embodied the legacy of George Washington and the hopes of a divided land. Both North and South knew Robert E. Lee as the son of Washington's most famous eulogist and the son-in-law of Washington's adopted child. Each side sought his services for high command. Lee could choose only one. The decision he made would change history.

Would you try another book from Jonathan Horn and/or David Drummond?
If it's your first book about Lee or the Civil War it would be somewhat interesting, but all it really does is repeat what has been said it many other places and like I said, not as well.

When Ball Four was published in 1970, it created a firestorm. Bouton was called a Judas, a Benedict Arnold and a “social leper” for having violated the “sanctity of the clubhouse.” Baseball commissioner Bowie Kuhn tried to force Bouton to sign a statement saying the book wasn’t true. Ballplayers, most of whom hadn’t read it, denounced the book. It was even banned by a few libraries. Almost everyone else, however, loved Ball Four.

Boring!!!!
Revisado: 08-22-14
What disappointed you about Ball Four?
I can't understand what the big deal is about this book. I love baseball. Just finished books on Cobb, Ruth and Stengel. I could barely listen to this. It was just a continuous attempt by Bouton funny which he was not. It still would not be good but it would have been an improvement had Bouton not tried to narrate it.
Would you be willing to try another one of Jim Bouton’s performances?
No
What character would you cut from Ball Four?
Jim Bouton
